I started a thread here to see if I could get 10 people interested in a full custom fibreglass bonnet with a bulge for ea/eb/ed which is the best option but didn't get enough interest.
To fit it to a normal bonnet it has to be graphed on and from the few people I know that have done this they have had dramas with it cracking and ruining there paintwork within 6 months of it being done. If you help me find 10 people I can have the full fibreglass bonnet version available for $800 each. If we can't get atleast 10 people then the manufacturer wants $6000 to build the mould to manufacture them but for 10 or more he is willing to not charge for the mould. |

Steel grafting is the strongest but also the most expencive. The labour is the filler there. Panel welding is not easy. SWC does it though. and on the subject, Troyman, What does you bonnet look like underneth?? Do you have the standed reforcement from the ED bonnet, or something else?

That is a good job, I thought of cutting the renforcement bracing and sticking it to the buldge then welding some bracing from the factory bracing to the bulge bracing. Like the BA/BF V8's

I got a fibreglass boss bonnet for 650 bucks cost me 950 to get painted and within 4weeks it had bubbled and the paint peels off and the paint rep told me it was release agents in the fibreglass itself that was causing it to happen is this tru?

I got exactly the same on my ea project car.... I had it profesionally grafted on and sure enough within 6 months it cracked all the corners. I have taken it back to the guy I done it with and he seems to think that what has happened is that the air trapped under the bulge expanded with heat at this is why it has cracked. He refitted it for me ( for free) and used a hole saw and cut out a aprox 10cm hole neatly disguised under the hole in the brace of the under bonnet. He said this should releave and pressure thus stopping the air expanding and stopping it cracking.
This has been done aprox 2 months ago so fingers crossed. |

id get rid of the fibreglass bulge and get a genuine steel bonnet. Weld it in place and it will never come off.
