The Moulding across the top on XR grilles that's usually the same colour as the body work.

Has anyone tried chroming this bit?

I see this bit Chrome on some Mazda 6 variants, and on quite a few VE Commodores. It's also noticeable when you see a chrome grill on a Fairmont/Ghia Fairlane.

With the Chrome Mirror Scalps on a BA XR, it seems that it needs more chrome at the front to balance it out, and I'm almost considering doing this.

Has anyone tried this before or given it any thought?

Not sure about the chroming on the grill, but I've had chrome mirror scalps on my BA XR6 for almost a year and I couldn't be happier with them. What do you mean about more chrome on them? Are you talking about the black plastic bit where it attaches to the car?

I tried the above link but got a dud page.

Try this then - this is a BFII SR, but at least it shows the kind chrome strip I talking about.

Ah, I see what you mean now.

Looks to me like that chrome part is actually stuck onto the bodywork, as opposed to being part of the inner grille.

Interesting. Not sure how you'd go about that. Anyone else about to help?

I've never disassembled it. I understand that it's separate from the black cross-hatch meshing section - which is likely going to get replaced anyway by this Grille being sold on eBay.

I can't imagine Chrome is easy to replicate in photshop. I don't have the software anyway.

I wonder if anyone could 'shop me an image of the following BA Ghia chrome grille moulding at the top onto the previous image with the grille replacement?

Not sure what sort of $ I'd be looking at just for the XR Grille Moulding. Anyone done this before? Am I even heading in the right direction?

I know Darren at FTG has chromed up some Territory Bling lately. I should ask who he used perhaps.....

Be interested to see who he used, I am also interested in getting a few little things chromed on the Audi.

The BA XR grille is one piece-top section is joined to honeycomb mesh but you might be able to get the top strip plastic chromed...I've been looking at getting a wagon tailgate garnish (above no. plate) plastic chromed in Brisbane but there's not many places up here...cheers Linz.

Just bought a BF 2 ute in 'steel'. I too want to bling the grill.
Checked into it. The BF 2 bonnet is inverted as compared to the BA and BF 1. Its a different grill. yes 2 peices. Fairmont grill costs aroung $400.
Anyone know any after market? I wonder if that chrome paint from hardware store is any good?

Don't know about BF2 but BA XR grille is one piece and XL/XT,Futura & Fairmont are 2 piece. BA aftermarket grilles are available but haven't seen anything later yet. I've used that "chrome" paint a few years ago but it's nothing like the real deal, believe me! It would devalue a nice car immediately...cheers Linz.
