Hey guys just trying to think up ideas for the bonnet to fit the BA engine

i like the smooth stream line look of the XR bonnet so im trying to steer away from an XR8 bonnet bulge

does anyone have any other ideas?

is it ok to cut the bonnet and leave a rectangular hole?
is that illegal in any way?

any ideas would be great :)

as long as the bonnet braces/supports on the underside aren't cut, i can't see the structural integrity being affected by that. but with transport/cops you never know lol

Judging by Jet's one it only just misses clearing.
I wonder (with out a lot of thought) if lowering the Kframe by spacing it away from the body and then adjust the ride height by springs would work.

Prob come under the same rule and Air Filters hanging out your bonnet or bonnet scoop. Check ya states rules on that and u should have an answer.

a rectangular hole would be a big "no no" for the cops... imagine hitting a person, it would rip em to shreds with the hole... :(

Obviously if i cut a hole it wont be left with a sharp edge, i wouldnt want to cut myself accidently
and i dont intend on hitting any pedestrians :)

I was thinking about trying to mould the bonnet a bit to raise it slightly instead of going for a big bulge

when i get my car back ill have to see where all the supports are and if they would be in the way

otherwise i was maybe toying with the idea of a twin scoop to raise the front of the bonnet

lookin at my car 'el' if it had the dohc motor there is a brace running right over where the rocker cover would b...
mabe just the brace hits and not the actual bonnet. like the brace is about 30mm lower than the bonnet ( just a guess by lookin at it).
if that was the case the mabe u could try cutting just that part of the brace out and finish it of nicely where it used to b attched to the other braces....then it mite not look out off place and the cops ( who ever ) mite look straight past it as if they never even knew there was anything there in the 1st place?
just a thought

yeah i know but as i said in the 1st post that would be the last thing because i want to try keep the sleek look of the front

but by the sounds of it, the BA bulge may be the only way...

has anyone seen them on an EL XR?
does it look ok?

The BA Bulge, actually fits in with the lines on an EF/EL bonnet like it was made for it.

If I were you, I too would be looking for a more subtle way.
