Hi folks,

Considering buying a BA Falcon wagon and sticking an XR6 front end on it... Ball park, including fitting, what should I expect to pay?

On the subject (offtopic) of buying cars, anyone dealt with Ray Lahood at Auburn?

Cheers.

The Lahood family lives around the corner from us. Great family.. they have quite a few yards.

I'd take a guess and say that they'd be pretty damn good. But at the end of the day, we know what car yards are like :P

Would ford do you a one off from factory? Or maybe even the dealer?

(even further off topic, but it heads in the right direction in the end....)

There is a BA XT wagon with xr6 suspension and rims for $23k with about 40,000 kms on it. With an XR front, it would make my day as it's white and i love the look of XR's in white....

I don't want to go a new wagon, as the MK2 wagons start at about $36k... compared to this low km model above... And thats about my budget.... kinda... could go a bit higher later in the year...

Dunno what to do... bought a 2001 Camry Azura about a year back now, expecting it to be cheaper to run than my EF Ghia (wade cam, jmm extractors and zorst)... The camry is a shocker on fuel, really disapointed. It's a nice car, top of the Camry range (electric leather seats, climate, nice stereo, dark tint, 16" alloys, deck lid spoiler), but it's not a good handler and not that big inside....

If I trade it now, It should pay out the loan... If I leave it until later this year, I will be way behind as it's going to devaluate quicker than i'd like.

Reason i'm looking for another car is that our family is in need of a bigger vehicle... and a BA Wagon, with an XR front, would do the trick :-)

I called one place this morning and they quoted $2500 for the ba XR6 front end... Is that what I should expect? or is there a cheaper option...

Cheers,
Mike - XL250

u could pic a front end up cheaper than that im sure, ive seen a few on ebay prob get lights bar for 1000 if ure lucky or 1500 from a wrecker.
FTG might have some in even PM xr8dismantler he may be able to help u out.

2500 seems a littly stiff to me though.

and it wouldnt be hard to fit it ureself

i think Xr8 dismantler wants $1500 for a BA XR front end, his website is: http://www.ftgautosalvage.com.au/ you are very unlikely to find a cheaper price than his, and wont be dissapointed doing business with him.

and there should only be a dozen bolts to undo to do the conversion, so it isnt hard at all. (im assuming the BA fron uses all the same mounting points, as it should)

this is a very easy job taking about 30 mins. to fit. after paint.

you need a complete bumper with spotlights
2 x headlamps and a grille
the whole lot will set you back $1500

you will then need to wire up the driving lights. the last 2 we fitted the
guy just wired them up of the parkers through a relay. took him under 1 hr.

we can also supply cruise control kits, xr steering wheels, xr shifters,
turbo motor and auto  territory awd front end  ect.

Is that best done verbally or in writing???

The BA XR front sounds like a good mod to me - I honestly thought it would cost a lot more.

Get a manual wagon, fit the XR front , a nice set of alloys and lower the suspension and I'd be happy to own it.

Despite the Lebo name which might put off people thinking they are going to get Burnt by a Sleazy Car yard salesman. I Worked with a guy who's cousin is Ray Lahood. He said he has bought through him often and said he was pretty good. Though I noticed a while back he seemed to have an unusually high amount of Gen 3 VT- VX's for sale. Yeah Piston slap rejects came to mind. So like anything buyer beware :!:

Ah well... the wagon in question had sold by the time I got there... In fact, a couple were test driving it when we turned up.. and signing the papers when we left...

It had factory xr6 suspension, rims and 3.45 diff. Enfield Police wagon.

So our search starts again. Might look at the auctions.. Pickles, Autogroup... any others?

I will be getting an XR front when ready, probably side skirts too... Wonder how a rear bumper of an XR6 would go on a wagon?

Yeah theres supposed to be a reall good place out in Liverpool, but dont really knowwhere abouts....

Went to pickles last saturday out at Belmore, they had a couple of wagons~$24 000 i think.... Went there with a mate (Snow_white) there was a couple of good cars but sum of them had a couple of dents and scratches, there was really only 1 or 2 fords that didnt have anything wrong with them (according to NRMA). Also saw a 75th anniversary Fairlane, not a bad car, but it had its fair share of problems.... Auto Group is where we got our fairmont and havent been there lately, planning on going there soon.

there is a dark blue ba wagon on carsales.com.au (do a search) with the xr6 front from factory and xr6 wheels and suspension, tinted windows and a nice little lip spoiler on the back, man does it look hot. wants a little too much though $29,000 with 48k on the clock.

what a pity that whoever is in charge at ford decided that you cant buy a wagon in manual........ idiot. if they made a manual wagon i would have one already, wont even do a factory one off. also you cant get a v8 wagon at all anymore, the moment they come to there sense's and make a hot wagon im sure they would sell unreal.

mmm, xr6 turbo 6-speed wagon, yes please.....................
