if you spend the time/money/effort building a bar, it can be just as good as the purchased version.

The main issues i see are

Purchased ones are 100% fibreglass, some people don't like fibreglass, it doesn't have as much flex before it cracks/breaks.

depending on what you use to make a custom bar, you may be using the factory plastic stuff.
In which case you could consider plastic welding.
alternatively, some glass/filler/sikaflex will acheive something custom and one off, but depending on how smart you make it, it may be prone to cracks.
it may also be more resistant to flex.

If you want something you can paint and put on, then go the purchased one, but there are a few around.
if you want to spend the time and effort to be individual then make a bar.

that is exactly right.. i made the hybrid "one off" ef/ba gt front bar... had help fom green machine on the tedious sanding/finishing spraying of the bar... but was fun making it.. i learnt as i went...

i baught the typhoon bar as the gt bar was destroyed by an errant truck tyres on a freeway

if you have the time/patience.. i would say BUILD IT!.. so much more fun/rewarding when it is finished... if not.. then the "NewgeL" bolt on "BF typhoon bar" is the next best option...

im in the latter category... im time restricted lately..
