Cool thanks guys, now i fully understand about the differences etc in the sizes and profiles of tyres. As i was not completly sure to begin with

kind of a bit late, but oh well!
i've got 225/60/15's on mine, and very happy with them - same mags as what you've got, and the profile looks good. only issue i have is them cutting out on the front guards - but thats as much a lowering issue as anything else... the problem with 225's is that (over here anyways) its a bit of an oddball size, and 17's can be had for as much... maybe worth a look? i'm going to go 17's soon hopefully, and still paying about the same for tyres!

id look at going 215 or 225s.
if you are serious about your tyres, speak to a few different tyre places and see waht they recommend. independant places are the best for recommendations, cuz they arent generally biased towards any particular brand.

Yeah I got 215/60 allround on my EL. I was wanting to go up to 225's but a lot of the tyre places said I would get to much sidewall bulge as I have only 15x6.5's and not 15x7 to be safer. They said they can and have put 225's on that size but if anything happens they dont know anything about it!

Yeah ive got 205's or 215's at the front ( cant really remember )but they look wider than the 225's i have at the back LOL! Whats up with that I have Bolex AW2008 tyres at the front and atm i have Bridstone Turanzas at the back.
But i think thats just a different design thing thou.

Just been down pricing tyres this morning and i have found a pair which i think sound like they are the go.
First of all most of the people i talked to said dont go bigger than a 225 on a 15' rim so im staying the same size. This is the tyre i will be getting Yokohama C-Drive performance tyre, 225/60/15. $160 each. Was looking at Bridgestone Turanza and Firestone TZ50 but he recommended the Yoko's over both of them for price and performance. I should be able to get easy 35,000-40,000kms out of them he reckons driving sensibly thou.. Which i always do ne way.....

If you have no idea, then stick with what the factory use size wise. The Yokahama A539 is voted the best performance tyre at the moment, why wouldn't you go with that? I've just got an EL Gli, but the Yokis do well on that. BTW, tyre size is three numbers with three different units - rim size (inches), width (millimeters) and profile (percentage of the width). Also, could get expensive if you don't remember a different size may affect your speedo calibration. (not a problem if you have a cop cluster like mine

Yeah i know that, the dude i was talking to said to me that it affects your speedo. So yeah i was already aware of that, but i mean it cant be that much because ive passed a heap of radars etc and i havn't got a fine (yet) so it cant make a huge difference.
But yeah the other Yoko's that you mentioned, they told me about them but again the C-drives will prolly last longer, but the perormance was beter with the A539. Thats what i was told, but each to thier own. Thanks for the replys thou.

If your tyres are bigger than standard, your speedo will read under what you are actually doing. So you may not be getting places as fast as you could be!
To figure out how different your speedo is to the standard, measure your wheel circumference. 60 clicks on your speedo is 60 clicks at the rear wheel when your circumference is 1971mm. If your wheel is inside 40mm either side of this, you are within the quoted accuracy of the speedo anyway. Measure your circumference with a squirt of shaving cream on your tyre tread, and drive about 10 meters up your driveway. and measure how far the blobs are apart. Have fun, dang. |

Na its cool, but thanks for the idea. Im not too concerned as the owner b4 had done it so if it caused major problems im sure he would of changed it back to the normal size.
