What would be involved in making the bonnet open from a switch instead of the cable.

For example, use a solenoid that pops the boot open, is it just a simple 2 wire switch that makes the solenoid work.
The switch will be hidden so cops cant find it.

And now the reason i want to do it.
if a police officer asks me to open the bonnet they will see all the turbo gear in there and instantly canary or epa me.
now if i say the cable is broken, he wont be able to look in there.

Is it illegal to have a bonnet release cable that doesnt work.

hope i dont sound too dumb with this post lol.

has anybody else done this before.

can be done just like the boot release
u would need to find the correct 12 solenoid that has enough "throw" to do this

i would also keep the standard cable release as well for emergency ( ie flat battery )

yes it is ileagal for u not to have a functioning release so u will get stickered anyways

if u are worried about the epa or sticker get is certified! sure it will cost u some $$ but if the cops ask if it all ok u can provide them with paperwork to say so!

any way this is a rough guessimate of what you would need

About 2 metres of wire.
A another boot button
the boot release solonoid

make a bracket of some sort a u shaped one at that were the solonoid can sit with out wobbling etc etc... a length of old clutch cable or bonnet cable. measure and cut wire were solonoid will be hiding,,, mount the solnoid connect wire from solnoid to bonnet lock,, run wires from solonoid up were the bonnect cable did sit (maybe put the wires in the old cable surround feed it back under the dash and to ya button and that is about it maybe put in a spare spot so it looks like it meant to be there.

They'll see the cooler, let you go, and a week later you'll get a letter from the EPA telling you to book it in at Altona or McLeod to be tested.
Rape.
Don't dose a TMU, don't drive past a TMU, don't go anywhere the TMU are, don't say "TMU" three times in front of a mirror.
And you might last for awhile ;)

But I'd be prepared in the back of your mind to return it to stock in case you get done, like others said, your car ain't a sleeper, its only a matter of time.
Everyone runs out of luck eventually!

thats the thing, i drive sensibly and have never had a fine for doing anything wrong because i simply drive safe,
All because i have a modified car, i shouldnt get classified as a hoon because i know im not.

so if i get busted with the turbo there will they say go to the epa and get it tested?
and whats involved with the test, make sure emissions are good?
the cars getting a microtech installed now so emissions would be good, wouldnt you think.

tmu dont worry me, i see them all the time, drive near them all the time and they have seen the intercooler, and the way i figure is if i do something wrong thats when they will get me, bit unfair if im not doing anything wrong except driving a modified car.

A M8 has a subaru Impresa with an aftermarket turbo setup 260+rwkw. he drove from redland bay to chermside and got pulled by the cops 3 times!! car looks stock, well looked after, no body kit and 20 inch mags. and he doesn't drive it crazy.
Get is blue plated so they can't complain is your only bet. Sayin you can't open the bonnet is only going to CREATE a yellow.

i think you will find that you cant pass the EPA test in vic with a after market ECU.
if it is getting a microtech i would get them to hide it as best as possible and leave the std computer hooked up, on the hope that they don't look for it.

the standard computer is definately staying to control everything except fuel and spark.

and the microtech is gettign wired up behind the kickpanel.

why is it illegal to have an aftermarket ecu if its designed to make airfuel mixtures perfect

ive been told that the only aftermarket ecu you can have, in qld though, is a Motec cause of the construction of it (something about it having a lead case or something)

He could of course just spy the intercooler and bust you anyway.

By the way your car looks awesome. :D
