Any one know where I can buy gas struts for my NC Fairlane so the boot will raise up by itself when I press the button?

Also the GT items are ex east..... not that that matters cause most of use blokes are over east annyway. What about the bonnet struts? Mine kept failing, so i used a piece of hose slipped over the shaft to hold it up. Unfortunately, the hose slipped off one night on the side of the road when i was fixing it, and the bonnet fell down. I had my torch on the overflow tank, and it managed to flex the bonnet enough to shut it. Had a fair bit of trouble trying to get it to release as well same story, i got the s**t with my tempremental bonnet strut, $40 later, i had a new one from auto pro

So there are three types? Are they designed to lift the bootlid up by itself without any helping hand? I ask as I have never seen an E-series bootlid open all the way by itself after hitting the boot release.

i bought my ef with a rear window louvre thing, those ugly black plastic things on the back window. my boot kept falling, so i changed the struts at the wreckers, still kept falling, so i replaced them again, and yep still kept falling, i had a look on he arms and found they had put 30mm rubber grommets on either arm to stop the boot hitting the louvre, ripped them off and through them across the drive way.. boot stayed up no worries

As bob said - for you Perthies theres a guy in ozzie park (guthrie st i think) called WA Strut Specialists. Very good.
They did mine and now it pops up nice and easy. He had to put some extra gas in for the spoiler though....the standard falcon ones he stuck on first didnt have the guts.

must be - I quoted the part number for the gt struts and he got some in, picked them up yesterday and fitted them. So yes now if I push the boot button it will open all the way by itself, we'll see how long that lasts for!

Greg, how fast does your bootlid raise itself? Is it a slow even movement or does it slam up fast because there is no spoiler on the bootlid?

it is slow and even, I do have a spoiler on the bootlid and a boot garnish as well so that adds extra weight

I have no spoiler on my bootlid so I guess I just need someone to confirm to me that the Standard struts will lift my bootlid all the way by itself with no assistance.

probably - they do get tired after a while so I would imagine new ones would life it up. My stock ones used to lift my boot before I put a spoiler on it...

Ahhh so standard ones did actually lift the bootlid unassisted? This is all new to me... I thought all E-series bootlids were raised by hand!
