is there any difference between the boot struts on a el without a rear wing and one with a rear wing? eg: is the el xr struts stronger to compensate for the weight of the wing?

Have you tried opening an EF/EL boot with only one strut connected? I can't believe how bloody heavy they are without the strut assistance

Ford lists 3 diffrent types of struts, one for the base models with no spoiler, one for the xr6/xr8 and another for the ELGT. the elgt has a bigassed rear spoiler so my guess is that it is a fair bit firmer.

Part numbers and my retail prices as follows

STD: EFF406A10A
$34.87

XR: EFF406A10B
$31.05 ea

ELGT: GTTVEF406A10A
$34.70 ea

Geez, at those prices I can't understand how people keep letting their boot lids fall on their heads! That's not bad.

yep. every ford dealer will have diffrent prices, however thats the price that we would retail them for.

I have no idea why the xr ones are cheeper though?
Also the GT items are ex east..... not that that matters cause most of use blokes are over east annyway.

when I first got my Ef it was 8 months old, pop the boot button and it would raise all the way up itself. Now over 8 years old and a rear wing on, no chance!! Struts are just too tired.

What about the bonnet struts? Mine kept failing, so i used a piece of hose slipped over the shaft to hold it up. Unfortunately, the hose slipped off one night on the side of the road when i was fixing it, and the bonnet fell down. I had my torch on the overflow tank, and it managed to flex the bonnet enough to shut it. Had a fair bit of trouble trying to get it to release as well :o

When I hit the boot release, my boot lid raises a whole 2 mm and I open it by hand.

Mine is the same, altho once you lift it about 15-20cm it raises by itself - and this is on a lwb boot lid with lights and xr8 spoiler hanging off it.
I think the struts are in v good condit as my green car has no spoiler and is heaps hander to lift - doesnt fall down but lol!
