Every now and then.. my left hand brake light stops working. then all of a sudden it works. what should i check? my old man briefly checked the connections and made sure nothing was loose. Wat else could be the problem? (95 ef xr6)

I've had a similar problem. Theres no easy solution and as far as i know, its a case of manually going in there with a multimeter and finding out by elimination which wire/connector is faulty..

The best time to try is when it is not working. Find a part of the circuit that is working, and measure the voltage/amps.. then move along the circuit a little and keep measuring sections until you find the section that is causing the circuit break. You might even find the bulb holder at fault.. could be anything..

i had that prob my brake switch was gone if not that then it is a loose connection

if the brake switch is gone, no brake lights will work or they will all stay on. the switch triggers the brake light circuit. check the bulb's in there nice and tight - bumps on the road could cause the intermittant fault if the bulb's loose or the filament may have begun to break down.

Check wiring connectors, bulb holders, even the bulb itself as the filament could be broken and occasionally making contact.

When I had this problem I just regularly replaced the globe (after several trips to the auto electrician and service departments who came up with nothing). The alternative that was suggested to me was to replace the loom - much cheaper to replace the globe every few months...

If the bulb connection is intermittent, then have someone stand on the brake while you slowly flex the wiring from the brake light assembly, all the way back to the front of the car and see when the bulb starts working again.
