i want to get a bulge for my ba wagon im purchasing in a couple of weeks. only thing is, im unsure about what to purchase.
a GENUINE xr8 bonnet. or a BULGE - then get it molded and painted to my stock bonnet. or a new FIBREGLASS bonnet with bulge already applied. ive talked to my local pannel beater and he said he could apply the bulge no probs and it shouldnt crack ( if it did, he would fix). keeping in mind $$ , what 'in your' opinion.. would be best for the price and finish. thnks. |

the fibreglass bonnet with the bulge already molded are alot lighter and would be a good idea.
the fibreglass bonnet would crack alot easier than if you get an original xr8 bonnet and weld the bulge on your existing bonnet.

For the best looks clearly a proper XR8 bonnet or a well made full fibreglass bonnet will be the go.
If your start tacking something onto your existing bonnet it will more than likely show. Besides, for the amount of labour and pain in the a*** factor of putting the bulge onto your existing bonnet, I'd be more inclined to go for a replacement bonnet with it already on. As said, fibreglass bonnet would be lighter. |

would the fibreglass bonnet dent or crack easy?? The fibreglass one definately won't dent. It'll crack if you hit it hard enough. But it shouldn't crack unless your absuing it (in which case the metal one would also be dented). Remember you'll need new bonnet struts with the fibreglass ones. |

yer the xr8 bonnet bulge welded onto your existing bonnet wont crack but i could dent.
but the same force that would course the dent would probably put a fair crack in the fibreglass. if your worries about the bonnet cracking get the metal bulge welded on.

Why get a metal bulge welded on? For the amount of effort and labour involved (and there would be a fair bit to have it 100% perfect that you can't tell it's been added) in that you might aswell buy a full complete XR8 bonnet. |

Don't waste your time with fibre glass crap, do it properly and get the genuine boss bonnet. A fibre glass one will get cracks over time even if you don't abuse it

Fibreglass is s**t, it'll chip and crack easy. Who cares if its light, its not durable. Get a metal one.

cboz, you need to hear from different people. ford will sell you a bonnet if you can afford it.

If you don't want fibreglass due to the issues with cracking in the near future...or don't want to get a genuine XR8 bonnet bulge for a super high price.......just get some metal...and try your best at shaping it ...the Asian way I'm sure things can work out if you try hard enough...or just make your own bulge that may remotely look like a BA one.
On a serious note...I am sure you can get a bulge from the wreckers or even at the auctions (if you want to buy a whole wreck). If not...go back to previous paragraph. phong =P~

It just depends what your going to be happy with. If you go the cheap way and get a fibreglass one be prepared to get hairline cracks down the track or if you want something thats going to last save up a lil more and go for the metal one. I always thought the Boss bonnet was $1200 from ford? Unless that was trade price??
