LOL - I can relate to the tunnel dude.
On the way home on the freeway I get real close to the concrete barriers just to hear the zorst bounce back I do it early so there are usually no other cars on the road - so no flung up stuff. I have mudflaps too and that stops road fling pretty much. Unless roads are wet then I don't even bother and will chamois at home. I haven't had that residue problem with the water either - seems pretty clean here (I'm in Rockingham) It comes off so fast it doesn't streak at all. The only problem I do get is the odd few bugs on my windscreen, but as I clean the glass when I get back, I just clean them off. Next question; To clean my windows I use Glass cleaner stuff and newspaper. The newspaper leaves a lot of black ink on my hands, but the glass does come up nice and clean. Any better suggestions? I do have some stubbon watermark stains on a couple of my windows from the previous owner's lack of attention I guess, that I just can't budge no matter how often I clean it. Very subtle, only I notice them, but I'd prefer them not there. Any suggestions on getting them off? |

Any better suggestions? Glass Cleaner and clean unprinted paper towel. If you've got tinted windows don't use ammonia based glass cleaner (windex etc) on the inside. Armorall Glass cleaner is Ammonia free and is safe on tint.

Your replies are good enough to enter the Autopia horror stories thread
OK first problem - water spots on glass and paint Solution - white vinegar Wash the car in white vinegar and let it sit for 5 - 10 minutes It's caused by calcium in the water when it rains. Driving down the road after washing is a nightmare You get road grime all over your wet car Chamois can scratch as well and your really asking for water spots. Twenty years ago it was the done thing however.

You know what I hate?
When you spend a solid 3-4 hours washing and lavishing your car and it looks 100%. Then you go for a drive and all the water hiding inside the mirrors, under the side mouldings, under the window trims etc. all starts running out and Voila! Streak and spot city. I've got into the habit of going for a 5 minute spin after a session of cleaning now, then pulling back into the garage and going over the streaks and spots again with the chamois. They annoy the hell out of me!

I use the Meguires Gold Shampo and Condtioner. Seems really good.
What kinda results are you guys having with your products? Did you guys know that some of the cheap shampoo's have tiny glass beads in them. For extra dirt removing power but they also scratch the duco! |

Well with my XF i always used, Polyglaze and meguires cleaners and that always used to come up real nice shiny. But due to stupid water laws and not having a decent front yard i can only go to the jumbos car wash and clean the XR6 thier, still comes up alrite but alas its not perfect.

I took a few litres of water with Meguires in it with me to the self serve car wash in Melbourne once. Poured it into a bucket, sprayed the car with the gun, used Meguires, and rinsed it off with the gun again. Wasn't too bad.. |

I bought some turtle wax for my white XF today, It needs a serius polish, Anyone recomend a way to get the best finish. I want it to be the best since i am selling it. I got the chip stick with it so that sould help mask the slight scatches. I also bought a electric polisher so that should make the job easier( i hope). What do you guys recomend for getting grease stains from the engine bay?????
Any help would greatly be appreciated. Cheers

I wash my car every Saturday morning - religiously. I used to use a chamois after washing to get the water off, but now, I go for what I call a "shake down" run instead I basically go for a 10 minute drive to nowhere in particular and back, and this gets most of the water off the car with very little effort. I live right near some 100km/h roads which make for a quick blast. Any remaining water which is usually only in certain areas is then chamoised. Good idea? Or not? |

I finally realize why I get heckled when I'm naked in the middle of the auto wash spraying the Meguires off myself.. |
