These tips are awesome... any tips on drying little edges? like where water seaps out, and then leaves water marks? like side mirrors, and fuel door, and doors themselves...?
The only annoying thing I find about cleaning my car, is that I get it all nice and clean and it either rains, or my washer jets release a bit of water by themselves (it leaks out), leaving water marks... annoying. Cheers

You've obviously never tried to get your car to look perfect.. Id also like to find a way to get the small amounts of water out of those places you cant see them, the only way ive got so far is to open/close each door 2or3 times, open bonnet for min or 2, open boot for a min also, open fuel door or run a absorbant clth in the gap untill dry.. I feel your pain when you put the effort in only to see the car looking all water marked 5min later!

Yeah i personally think keeping your car clean and shiney as possible is the best thing you can do. Shows what kind of car owner you really are!

Guys - do you have an air compressor or blower vac handy
Open fuel doors, etc and blast the high pressure air into the area and then wipe up any left over marks Know what you mean with water jets, I never use mine as I don't need to and lots of cars have high mineral content water in the reservoir which when used, leaves water spots and if not removed in time, can etch the clearcoat requiring machine buffing to remove These tips are just the start, thousands more I will list in time Anyone's car can be a DREAM MACHINE, it just takes dedication You can refinish your car quickly by spending heaps of time every weekend or take as long as you want to. If you drive your sweet ride every day, make it good policy to carry a bottle of quick detail spray, a couple microfibre cloths and protectant in the boot or glove box This way you can fix any bugs, bird droppings, water marks etc

i get a little confused with the best way to finish off the paint job. how would i undertake waxing and finishing the car, buffing etc, to get that mirror finish

Have you ever used an orbital or rotary buffer - that's what you may need to get that mirror finish
By hand I recommend washing, claying (during wash for faster result), using either a paint cleanser, swirl mark remover or polish and then enhance the paint (especially dark colours) with a paint glaze (clearkote vanilla moose, farecla black top or 3M Imperial hand glaze) and then sealing with a polymer, super polymer or acrylic sealant and for that really wet look. finish off with a pure paste wax such as meguiars, mothers etc It's my belief that there are better alternatives but those two are the best off the shelf brands

what pads should you ask for as every whear i go they only have two types, one is an applicator and the other is a pure wool buffing pad.
any help

Edge classic and 2000 foam buffing pads are the best I have come across
There is black yellow,green, blue and white pads and that's the order that you can use them Black is heavy cut, yellow is medium cut and from green onwards they are all polishing & final finishing pads 3M waffle pads in black and white, white is cutting) are also good pads along with Lake Country and Sonus SFX

what's this clay that you described? I went to that bettercarcare.com site and they talked about it too, but I can't find any places that stock it. Do you know retailers that stock it, and if so what brands do I look for? btw, great thread with awesome tips |
