hey Matt,

are you gonna be Melbourne bound in september or, in rural VIC?

I was after some sort of tyre sealant because I'm sick of pissing money away on stuff that doesn't even work!

Mildura in sep however I may be down earlier than that or in october as the old man plans to race his MGB racer at sandown again around then

I gather you are talking about tyre shine's
As far as tyre shine's go, the foam and most liquid ones burn off in no time

I really like wolfgang black diamond and sonus tyre gel's
both have heat reactive qualities so they return to full gloss when you drive

I have heaps of both, would you like me to send you a free 125ml sample of each one

Put two to three coats on for best results, do not shampoo your tyres when washing your car and let me know which one you like best and how long they lasted

Leave each coat on for one hour before applying another
These are petroleum, silicone and solvent free

Hey,

just a quick (or maybe not so quick) question..

i love cleaning my car, inside and out. then i had an idea. why not supplement my current part time job (im 19) and actually do the thing i love and get money from it? i live in a fairly small rural town, and the car detailing business is not very large here.
i was thinking maybe start real small, and move up from there? maybe an ad in the paper advertising a service to come to your house or wherever you are and detail your car. nothing too flash, but a simple clean and detail.

any suggestions on starting out? fair prices etc?

any suggestions would be heaps good.

Great idea, you are going to need some quality microfibre towels, liquid products of course and a good vacuum

I'm not the best help for this, best bet would be to get onto autopia and read up on articles and threads in pro detailers forum.

Set up cost could be too much for you.
About $25-40 dollars is the go for a typical executive wash

any suggestions would be heaps good.

i figured set up cost would be a bit much for me, but yeah i thought why not start off small. might look into getting some equiptment for myself anyway. will redirect myself to autopia. Thanks for that..

Love your work. :D

This is the most information I have been able to find on detailing my car and I have a dozen books on the subject. And I'm only on the third page! THANKYOU Aurora 98!!
One quick question, what do you use to remove the crayon/marker used by wreckers to number panels and glass? Just bought a car and it is covered in numbers.

Razor blade mate, wet the glass and blade (soapy water is best)
It's pretty hard to damage the glass

On panels, a clay bar should do it

1:4hrs every fortnight(work vehicle)
2:Knowing what to do and how to do it(technique)
3:PLENTY
4:only one that does anything about them
5:generally use what I know but always step up to something better(subject to budget)
6:not having a dirty grubby car in the driveway.pride in a clean, shiny and tidy car.
7:1.5-2 hours(panelvan) , 1.5 hours(NA Fairlane) , 1 hour(mirage)

this is just a thorough wash, how long does it take you to wash polish/seal then protect a car inside and out?

Well wash is usually a couple hours including quick detail spray while drying but that's due to careful low pressure rinse, foam gun shampoo and then four bucket wash

machine polish is at least two hours, most cars I do are three to five step so up to 10 hours
Sealing is really easy, spray and wipe on paint, glass and wheels and all done
Interior time depends on what product I use
15 mins to 40 minutes

The other wipe on sealers are easy to apply and remove but have a bonding time of a few hours before removal for optimum protection

the numbers on my fairlane turned out to be gold pen. A razor got most off the windows, but I ended up using kitten polish to remove it from the body before I washed.
I used a cotton pile/loop "sponge" with a web weave on one side and three buckets with the first bucket containing warm water. Wet the sponge, poured a strip of "meguirs soft wash gel" onto it and washed the car this way working from top to bottom.
The before and after were two different cars. I was amazed at how easily some of the crusted black marks and sap stains came off.

That's a good system to start with, be careful though, soft wash gel permanently streaked a customers paint which required me to machine correct the paint work

Hi, I've been reading throught the 10 pages and getting loads of tips! Thanks. I have a black car and hadn't washed it for properly for 2 months and it was dirty. Now it looks like it normally does but the paint doesn't feel smooth, feels like it's still dirty. What would you recommend me doing?

Thanks
Ben
