Tyre shine tip

The temptation to use alot of tyre gel or spray is always present as it gives a glossier finish but using too much has problems

Sling -sprays all over the bottom of the doors
Build up - can attract dust and give a horrible streaky finish
Doesnt cure - takes longer to bond and cure to the rubber

With the new tyre gels available, less is more
Use only a few drops or 5 cent piece blob on a sponge to apply
Then let it bond for ten to sixty minutes and either remove the excess or drive/park the car

Speaking of gels, my three creamy gels are in development

Rubber lover

#1 - Silky matte - a matte to satin finish with natural feel and look - no silicone or petroleum distillates of any kind

#2 - Low to medium gloss - a higher gloss than #1 and contains water based polydimethylsiloxane (silicone) which is totally safe for rubber
Still leaves a dry, natural feel that is not greasy or slippery

#3 - super high gloss - water based silicone and high concentration of new polymers
Once bonded and cured (hour to 24 hours), there is no sling, natural dry feel and a stunning high gloss finish that looks realistic, not shilacky, plasticky or artificial

These are in development at the moment

Pics

#1 rubber lover

Image

Rose pink colour and a decent aroma, not like air freshener but still pleasant to most people

#3 - still waiting on one more ingredient

Image

Caramel colour and a pleasant aroma also

I will do a video demo of these on tyres and rubber seals shortly
The results with both on rubber seals are amazing, makes them so supple and looking better than new for a very long time

NOTE : These do not contain the same ingredients as is in Meguiars Gels
And will not attract dust, actually repels it

Matt,
with #2 and 3 being silicone based, would that mean that it should not be applied to freshly painted vehicles?

True, keep it away from painted surfaces that are still drying
Only use it once the paint is cured, from then on it's all good.

Just put three coats of #3 on mine after heating the rubber with an ozito heat gun

How did it turn out? got any pics of it??

With heating the tyre, does that open up the pores to help the product absorb the rubber more?

Just some crazy thing I am trying, perhaps it would help the gel bond better and soak in

Right - back to the tips

What to look for from a quick detailer or spray polish, the brands that deliver the goods and the dangerous ones

Obviously the ability to safely clean a lightly dusty car and to boost the protection of the sealant or wax on the paint, glass and wheels and enhance the shine is very important

But there is more
Slickness - we all love the feel of a clayed, polished and protected finish
Unfortunately with all car wash soaps, whether at the coin op wash, drive through touchless or home washing (even waterless), the slickness can easily be lost and the protection weakened

This is due to the ingredients in the soap
Even the best soaps which do not contain sodium laureth sulfate (sulfonic acid and salt) do it
The coconut derivate (cocoamido) and chemical surfactants (surface active agents) wash a small amount away each time

Manufacturers use sodium sulfate because it adds body and heaps of suds to the wash when mixed with water
Trouble is that long term use destroys most sealants and all waxes and dries out the paintwork

So to bring back the slickness, restore the protection and enhance the wetness, gloss, depth and colour richness, a quick detailer is used, either spray onto the car with the paint still wet after the rinse and dry the paint with a towel or spray it on the paint, spread over each panel and buff off using microfibre towels

These came to prominence in the 1990's with the now famous Meg's quick detailer #34

All detail sprays will help but there are serious performers on the market and alot of inferior copycats, eager to take some market share regardless of the nasty chemicals in their products

It is not that well known but a large percentage of detail sprays have absolutely no protection at all and lack slickness improving ingredients and don't even enhance the gloss either

They are just water, ethylene glycol (engine coolant), alcohol (strips wax and sealant) which is added to make the product flash dry really quickly so it is super easy for the customer to use
Also in almost all of them are silicone oils, not neccessarily a bad thing but the results don't last

The problem with fast drying quick detailers is that by the time you have sprayed the panel with product and started to spread it around the panel, it has flashed off and is useless

Even if you get some working time with it, it is never enough

Car enthusiasts want maximum shine but also products that deliver results that last, not dissappear in a few days or even a month

Now I am not going to list which ones are the bad ones, that would not be wise, I'll just inform you of what to look for

Read Manufacturers MSDS sheets and look at list of hazardous ingredients
Apply it and see how much improvement in slickness there is, any gloss improvement and if the next weeks wash turns out

After using a top quality detail spray, the following wash that you do should be easier and also after a rinse with water, the water should sheet off of the paint either slowly or very slowly, leaving only a fraction of water left on the surface

After a rain shower, the beads on the paint should be taller and be alot of them.

Each brands product has weaknesses and strengths in each area
THE TOP PERFORMERS & Why it is in the list

Driven to Perfection Quick Spray concentrate

Image

Made from natural biodegradable ingredients including citrus, it has a strong percentage of the same sealant that is in the Driven Polymer polish and does not contain any alcohol, glycol or butyl

Is machine applyable via rotary polisher and foam pad (my preffered method), orbital polisher (supercheap orbital and terry bonnet (excellent) or foam pad or microfibre towel by hand

Via rotary, it's microfine polishing agents along with the cleaners, reslicken the paint, restore all lost shine, enhance colour, wetness and overall gloss and boost any sealant or wax
Will turn paint from shiny reflective to a liquid lustre.

Use it by rotary or orbital after each wash for six months and watch the paint turn to wet glass

But it's best attributes that make it superior to all others - it can be applied to any surface of a vehicle except fabric

Polish your glass, clean the dash, door cards, centre console, clear plastic, polish your chrome pieces
It can be used inside and out.

Apply to your favourite polish to make it easier to use
One 473ml bottle makes up to one gallon of product
Either full strength (adding to polishes)
473ml product, 500 to 1000ml water or 473ml product to 2 to 3 litres of water

it can be sprayed on and worked into the paint for up to one minute with foam pads or microfibre towels rather than a few seconds that it's competitors last

Protection is approximately two to three months
Attention all machine users - it removes fine to medium holograms left behind by amateur detailers using a rotary.

Prima Slick
http://www.detailersparadise.com/View.a ... 1513519625

Although not diluteable like Driven, this in and out spray has no harmful ingredients, plenty of protection and a look all of its own (warm glow)

Totally safe for woodgrain, wheels, exterior trim, glass, vinyl, hard rubber, clear and coloured plastic and all types of paint

Slickness is sensational

Protection - two to four weeks

Aussie Gold Showroom glaze

The ultimate in protection with six months of silicone free sealant and good slickness
Gloss enhancing ingredients are not quite as good as Driven but combined together, you have the ultimate spray polish and sealant

Totally silicone free, paintable and hydrophobic, put this on by machine or by hand for an incredible increase in lustre, slickness and anti static performance

Can be used after each hand or machine polishing step to remove polish residue and enhance gloss some more

Once again, another of these wonder products that clean and polish tinted windows, interior surfaces and all exterior materials
http://www.aussiegoldcarcare.com.au/000_0040.JPG

All three of these products are available from Dream machines
A combo of 40 % driven, 40% aussie gold and 20% prima slick will provide you with the most pleasurable quick detailing experience and results

Dilute as desired or use at full strength

Quick spray - $35
Prima Slick - $28
Aussie Gold 5 litre $66, 1 litre $20

How many quick detail sprays do you know that can be mixed in with any polish and not make the polish coaggulate

I recently started mixing 50/50 Driven Polymer polish & sealant and full strength Driven quick spray
The result is more gloss, butter smooth application, no buffing off necessary, great sealant protection and less product is needed

Just buff on with rotary or by hand and watch the paint get wetter and wetter

The ease of use and slickness of quick spray combined with the gloss and protection of the polish

Finally, my company on the driven site
An official and sole Australian distributor of these products
Not someone buying it and reselling it without permission

Howdy Hans

For leather I highly recommend Leatherique and Driven VRL

How bad is the leather?
If it's in good condition or even average, the Driven will revitalise that and leave a nice scent and dry to the touch finish

Dunno about autoglym, have not tried that

You should lightly work the product (either) into the leather with a terry covered foam pad (I have these) and are cheap)

Don't saturate the leather with product, apply to the pad and work in with circular motion then horizontal or vertical passes to finish off

Give it 15 mins then wipe down gently with microfibre towel (not the same ones that you use on paint)

Leatherique is killer for serious damaged leather and even those in average condition
Anything better than that and it's Driven that I recommend

OK i've done a few quick videos yesterday and this first group show application and removal of my Mat's Magic Ultra hydrophobic drying aid spray which makes water sheet off the paint extremely quickly, leaving the treated areas bone dry in seconds with only a few spots of water here and there to remove.

This car has no sealant or wax on it either, just polished. On sealant coated paint, it works better
