Like to know what the best way is to clean off some light rust that has started on the surface of my 12 slotters on my XB. If I rub it with some steel wool it starts to come off, but Im worried about scratching the chrome.

Doh. Sorry dude. I'm in holiday mode. Still the deoxidine will work very well. We use it on aircraft to clean metal before priming and riveting up. Dont need to use anything abrasive. Just get a rag and wipe on and off. Before trying it on your rims (just in case it eats them) try on some other metal and you'll see how clean and shiney it comes up. |

I found when I cleaned the rust off my 12 slotters it just came back with vengance later. I have since dropped the chromies and gone for painted. I actually like the look of the painted anyway. If you cant get em clean, I have a set of chromies in the shed, Im sure a couple are still good if you are desperate.

I'm not sure. I would try a hardware store. Failing that maybe a place that sells industrial chemicals. Must be careful with the stuff. Have to wear gloves and dont get any of it in your eyes and dont breathe in the vapours. As I said before try it on some other metal or some more chrome if you can find it just to make sure it wont hurt the chrome on your mags. |

Autosol is great for that sort of thing.
Or you can use some 600 grit wet/dry sandpaper, and work your way through to finer stuff, and finish off with autosol. Will come up good as new! http://www.englishcustompolishing.com/eneu/aluminum1.html

Thanks brett, but they should come up alright , they only got this way cause the XB wasnt driven for a couple of months while it was unregistered, Ill give the autosol a go and if that dont work , Ill try the other stuff Timmeh suggested. Thanks for the advice everyone!

Buy some Rust Converter... just make sure you dilute it with water.. it will then turn the rust black and it will just wipe off... or scrape off with the assistance of an old tooth brust if you do not want to scratch the chrome.
then spray with WD-40/RP7 or Fish Oil to prevent the rust returning. Leave it over night then give them a clean with the hose. |

I cant remember the name of the product, however it is in a bright yellow tim and can be bought from supercheap auto. It is like a very dense cotton wool, for polishing metal. Works a treat and should also remove small ammounts of rust... If you like, i can get the name of the product. Pretty hard to miss though, in a small yellow tin at supercheap auto, in the car cleaning section.
