I'm looking at making my own "clear lenses" to go with my EF's major appearance overhaul :) This is a prototype I made up tonight using a piece of clear prismatic flourescent light lens cut to shape with silver/chrome tape stuck to the back and 4 orange 10mm LEDs (clear lens not orange lens) shining through as the illumination. They'll sit quite flush, and will be no higher than the plastic strip that runs along the door (the LEDs will protrude backwards through the hole in the quarter panel)

Image

(using white LEDs in the middle to test, no LEDs are fitted in the top pic, so the external appearance they should look more uniform with them in place)

I was going to have the orange lenses sprayed body colour and then just drill holes for the LEDs to poke through, but I'll try this first.

Hey that looks like the fluro cover I broke at work last week...

I think they need to blink orange for legal and safety reasons. I dont know if yours do or plan to, since I dont fully understand LEDs.

why don't you just spray over the lenses and remove the light bulb? ea's never had the side blinkers so i dunno if it would be illegal.

Thought of a few questions during dinner for this mod.

Is the standard EF flasher water tight? Is this NF/NL one water tight? (on the current mould) Do they need to be water tight, or is it okay for water to leak in? (just flow on through?)

I don't have any problems with the sidemarkers taking on water in my car. I have the full genuine lense + moulding setup on my car though so there's a much better fit. It's the front ones I have trouble keeping the water out of. My left-hand front indicator hasn't worked in ages due to water getting in there and generally being a pest.

Hey I was checking out my standard fairmont indicators today and the bulb is white, what did you do to fix that problem twirqurky?

The NF/NL lenses, at least the genuine ones I have, have an amber bit inside which colours the light. I didn't have to change my globes or holders when I put them on my car.

I'm hearing ya - I ordered so many sets months ago but the supplier keeps going at their slowpoke pace, placing another call tomorrow and putting a rocket up 'em, apologies once again to those patient people that have emailed me in the last few weeks.
