i never cut mine.
like bunter said just bend the springy plastic a bit and they do clip straight on..

so much tension over a simple cut, or should I say no cut.

if you choose to cut it it may increase the chances of you stuffing it up, at the end of the day as long as it looks good and is on the right way.
