OK I thought I'd do my first ever exterior modification a simple and easy one.
Change the orange side indicators on my EL Fairmont Ghia V8 to clear ones found on the NL (EL) Fairlane.
Here are the pics for a comparison.

On doing the left one I found I couldn't get to the clip on the indicator to remove it without breaking it. Why? Here is the pic of the reason why.

This was a country car and now there is no doubt that it was. I also pulled out over 5 times that amount of dirt from the rear XR skirt fitted. Be aware of country cars and the dirt they hide!!!

Yeah, the EL Fairmonts/Ghias are the easiest to retrofit the clear sidemarkers onto as they already have the right moulding. Out of curiosity, what was the part number on the lenses you bought and how much did you pay? When I bought the bits for mine I specified NF parts and so all the part numbers began with NF. I'm wondering if Ford are assigning different part numbers and prices to what is the same damn part across the three different models (NF, NL and EL).

Cheers Fraser. I got that idea from you. :D

LSD I paid $30 for each indicator. Only because the regular guy wasnt serving so I didnt get my discount. (Bring Ian back to the desk Lynford!!!!)
They are cheaper at www.ozeparts.com.au they are $24 each but charge $8 shipping.
Part number is NF 13K309 A.
I think they are the same across those models you mentioned. I specifically asked for NL which is the same as the NF.

The moulds and lenses are exactly the same across all three models. I was just wondering if Ford were screwing people by having the same parts listed under three different part numbers and charging different prices for them but that doesn't seem to be the case (I only paid 29-30 for mine as well from memory, a lot better than I was expecting from a Ford dealer) :)

Well I'll kind of highjack the thread with my first exterior mod instead of creating my own.

Not operating as yet, but look good, lol.

NOW what I want to do with the front, is buy a grill surround from a wrecker and chrome the mofo, how you guys think that will look? Infact if anyone wants to photoshop my grill surround chrome, feel free.

Yeah, but I feel the EF Fairmont was not enough, and the EL Fairmont was too much. I think a chromed EF Fairmont surround would be perfecto!

I was thinking of doing that myself, swapping my EF grill for the chrome EL one, as it looks so much better in my opinion, but then again theres nothing wrong with the EF one...I would imagine it would be a straight swap, they look the same to me, i just gotta get money...ahh the joys of finishing school and not having a full time job lined up, plenty of spare time, no money haha
