Where could i get some clear side indicators which don't require using the Fairmont covering?

you could try the AUII (III?) clear indicators - you need to remove your current indicator & surround, and replace it with that one - only problem is, there is a small gap left under it, as the AU one doesn't fully cover the space where the EF one was. i've got them on mine - its pretty much only me who ever sees the gap underneath anyways! :P

Someone did have sets made in the original style and sold them reasonably cheaply (about $65/pr IIRC) but that was a year or so ago so its probably not an option today.

I considered the AU option but decided against it as I didn't like the idea of the gap or having to superglue the entire assembly (making replacement of the globe should it blow) to the car.

In the end I took the plunge and opted for NF Fairlane setup on my Fairmont. It cost an arm and a leg ($24.80 for each moulding and $24.60 for lenses adding up to $115.30 for the parts with a further $25.05 required for the paint) and requires a bit more work but gives the best results out of the available options:

(apologies for the crappy photo, the light conditions weren't exactly the best :P)

Unless you get right up close you can barely tell it's not stock, the colour match from the cheap touch-up pain I used was much better than I was expecting.

Yeah the price was pretty high :(

When stacked up against the AU option though (which probably would have been cheaper) it was an easy decision to make.

It was cheaper then what I did next though: I've had a problem with the tail lights on the EF Wagons since my folks bought their EF GLi 6-7 years ago. To cut a long story short, about two months after doing the side markers I replaced the stock taillights with the orange indicators with aftermarket EL ones with the clear (frosted white actually but you get the idea) ones from Repco. It cost 85 bucks a side with a further 10 bucks charge for freight (they had to ship them up from Perth).

I spent a long time searching them when I had the EF ghia. Send an email to this address asking for them. He has just received some custom ones from supplier. They are IDENTICAL to your current EF/EL orange ones, but are clear and so are a STRAIGHT swap.

Hope he doesnt mind me posting this, im sure he wont, more business for him!

As I recall, they were about $65 a pair a year or so ago IIRC. Whether that's lowered or increased since then I wouldn't have the foggiest.

EFFalcon has a set on his car which you can see in the photo on this thread:

http://www.fordmods.com/phpBB2/viewtopi ... t=effalcon

and the one in his gallery:

http://www.fordmods.com/phpBB2/gallery. ... t=EFFalcon

They have the advantage of being an easy fit to any EF/EL sedan or wagon (the exception being the EL Fairmonts but they already have the Fairlane moulding fitted as standard but with an orange lens. Genuine NF clear lenses are only $24.60 each making them the cheapest cars to upgrade of the lot) as you don't have to worry about painting or replacing the moulding.

Personally, I think the NF ones look a little better but I must admit to not having seen them across the full gamut of EF/EL colours, they probably look better on lighter colours (like the Argon Silver of my Fairmont for instance) than darker ones like the Heritage Geen(?) of EFFalcons car.
