Can anyone advise me if it's possible to spray another coat of clearcoat on top of faded surface paint to arrest the fade.

I'm not a spray painter nor can afford one.

I'd like to get this fixed..Do I need to lightly sand the area prior to applying clearcoat?

What grade of wet and dry sandpaper required?

I'd like to polish the car, aprt from the occassional wash, the car has never been polished since I've had it (2 years), does not look like it was polished in the past either.

What type of polish would be ideal to get some lustre.

Might as well just go back to bare metal and start again.

Yep +1 for the rub back and repaint. If you spray a clear over this, sure, will look great for a few weeks but the oxidising paint will destroy the new coat just as much as the original clear coat. Remove all the paint and primer to bare metal, prep and respray.

I have an EB SXR8 with all the horizontal surfaces coming off...I just leave it as no one touches my car that way. Not worth stealing in their eyes.

Thanks for that advice/ recommendations. If I had the gear, paint booth etc, confidence and knew what I was doing I'd give it ago to save a few dollars.

Might get a pro then if its going back to bare metal. I'd like to have the paint last for at least another 10 years. Lot of steps and procedures hey!
