Well ive been wanting to do something with my ED Falcon white with the grey with red strip inside. I was thinking about getting the whole stribe painted black ? the grey and red bit ? Anyone think this would look alright ?

I think it would look much better if you colour coded the whole car to white strip, mirrors and change the door handles to later e-series handles in white.

paint the grey white, leave the red as it is. Paint the mirrors.

Would it be easier to take the strips off to paint? or will it be difficult to get them back on straight and so they wont fall off
what type of paints to use and what prep work required?

when i painted my strips, i just masked everything off real good, but for the front and rear ones you really have to remove the bars (not too hard), i did my sidestrips with vinyl dye (you just have to clean them up real good first) it soaks in so you dont have to be all anal about it like with normal paint. The bits on the bumpers are a different matter though, you have to sand the protective layer off them, then prep with ESP or some kind of plastic primer, then paint with a satin finish paint (if you do them black like i did) - if you decide to do em colour coded, lightly sand the bits on the bumpers and prep with plastic primer then paint - and id say you wouldnt have to sand the sidestrips, just prime.

What paints do you use? are they available in aerosol?

Use normal automotive paint, 2 pack is best. you can use automotive acylic which is easier for the home panel beater as it drys much faster. Most of the auto touchup paints would work, however I have found they give a poor appearance on a large area, say in this case front and rear bumbers. They also don't match original paint too well, especially when faded.
As said all plastics must be primered with plastic primer. Add flex-aid to the paints to stop them cracking when the plastic flexes during driving. IIRC the red strips in a ED are integral of the trim and cannot be removed. So you need to mask them up well.
