hey all

just wondering if anyone out there has cut into their std EF/EL bonnet at all. due to being f**k around with my XR bonnet, i'm having to look at all options, incl getting another XR bonnet, cutting my existing one, or just selling my scoops & lid :?

so please, throw me your thoughts!

cheers

no mate .. don't try it ... it won't fit properly. I had a close look at Pete's bonnet and where they sit is pressed into the bonnet - cutting em out would look s**t!

yeah plus underneath I am pretty sure there are strength braces running directly underneath em ... you will need to find a proper xr bonnet .. one will come along.

There is also the four tabs that are part of the bonnet for the screw holes for the vents.

I'd get a proper XR bonnet or look at doing something different to yours that will make it stand out but still be stylish.

highjack time, I've finally got a hold of a suitable shaker for my mod, just have to make an airbox now, so while on the subject of cutting holes in bonnets, would I have much hassle cutting out the square directly above the manifold, I'm to lazy at the moment to pull the sound damper of to have a look whats in that area in the way of bracing.

the bonnets duel layer steel isn't it with a gap between? might be able to use a jigsaw with the apropriate blade (i've got some blades here that do metal up to 6mm thick).

Easist way to cut a hole in the bonnet is lay down 2" masking tape in the area required, map out the area to be cut and use a jig saw with a fine tooth blade. You'll need to drill a hole big enough to accommodate the blade, first. Just go at it gently, make sure the tape covers the area to be passed by the saw (to protect the paint against rubbing) and you're away.
Cheers, Bob
