hey all

with the spare parts from the wreck, i'm thinking of using them to test a few ideas for mine - specifically cleaning up the rear of the car, and debadging the 'Futura' and 'Ford' badges, and possibley even the boot lock as well :)

so for the rear panel, i just bog up & sand it down to a clean finish & then send it off for spraying?

what about the boot minus the lock - i'm assuming all i lose is the ability to unlock the boot with a key? do i have to keep the barrel inside to complete the circuit for smartlock/alarm/central locking purposes?

cheers! :P

hey bob, ive just had my ef resprayed and i de-badged the rear, i just got a screwdriver popped the badges out, all the left over sticky residue i scraped off with a razor then hit it with wet 600, filled in the holes, sanded it smooth then layed a few wet coats of primer (wet to fill in any fine scratches) then feathered out the edges of the primer with wet 600 again. a half hour job.
hope it helps......

i'll have the fairmont insert above the numberplate too - so won't make it look too empty if i remove the bagdes & boot lock :?

I debadged mine too when I recently resprayed it.
I left the boot lock in
A. because I use it
B. because if anything went wrong with the solenoid it'd be a pain in the a*** to get the boot open (especially with a sub box behind the seats)
C. I'm thinking of popping the centre of the lock out and leaving the surround to house a camera - not that I need one for reversing, just because I feel like it :P )

Image

But yeah if you want to shave the lock then there's no drama opening the boot without it in place. With a hole that big you'd have to do it properly though and have a plate welded over it. I did this even for my badge holes (welded, ground down and then the pitting filled in with bog)
The ones behind the ford badge is pretty big and I didn't want to leave them to bog alone.

Go the de-badge Fras...I debadged the wagon - didn't have any door mould decals - no rear tailgate ones, nothing ! It's a nice clean look I reckon...plus as you said, it'll keep people guessing hehe.

Hyena - your car is coming along nicely mate - bring it down for Geelong AFD in Feb :)

I might pass on that, it's a bit of a hike!
I was going to enter summernats but kinda left it too late and it's a bit pricey so I'm going to do power cruise instead. Should be more fun than nats anyway :D

Happy no website as yet, I'm planning to do one shortly though.
In the mean time here's a pic of me from yesterday failing to sucessfully negotiate a driveway... :x
First scratches in the new paintjob

I'm with Happy on this one. I like having the factory badges on the car. Not that people dont know its a Ford its just that I like having the Blue Oval where its supposed to be.

I'm not talking in general here...just in Fraser's case - seeing he has an XR front - it's not really one or the other - so debadging it keeps people guessing...personally if you have a stock car, then I too am happy to leave badges on - I do like a clean straight factory looking car :)

yah - i'm not trying to badge it as something its not, and never have - but by removing all badges it will a) keep people guessing & b) make it look a bit cleaner - plus its something different! :)

Looks clean without the ford badge and futura badge, all ive done is removed the futura badge and put ticky wings there and left the ford badge.

But im going to get rid of them all including the bootlock.
