Not sure about SA but QLD (someone correct me if Im wrong) the rule use to be mags cant be exceed 2 inches larger then what was fitted from factory but the rule has been changed to rolling diameter, not sure of the exact size but its something like 15mm, cannot exceed xxmm larger rolling diameter then what was factory fitted.

I got a mate who get defected in an ED 2 weeks ago on 17's!!! had to go down the copshop with him and a copy of VSI8 to straighten them out!! It was TMU aswell.
The two inch law thing, as far as i can make out, is more a guideline Page 3 of VSI 8 (im pretty sure the VSI applies to all states) {DESCRIPTION} States: RIM must be no more than 25mm wider than widest rim offered on the model Overall tyre diameter must be no more than 15mm larger than largest diameter Overall tyre diameter must be no less than 15mm smaller than smallest diameter Track increase on frontof no more than 25mm Track increase on rear of no more than 25mm on IRS, 50mm on solid axle. So it depends on what model u are talking about Im getting 19's for my ELXR6, and i made sure they are legal before ordering them: Use {DESCRIPTION} to find what tyre combinations came out on your model Then plug the sizes into {DESCRIPTION} to compare sizes Specifications Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Rev/Miles Difference 205/65-15 133 mm 324 mm 648 mm 2034 mm 492 0.0% 225/50-16 112 mm 316 mm 631 mm 1984 mm 504 -2.5% 245/35-19 86 mm 327 mm 654 mm 2055 mm 487 1.0% So 19x8 rims from 16x7 rims means within 25mm rim width the diameter of 245/35-19 is 6mm more than 205/65-15 And 20mm wider tyres would add 10mm of track per side of car, so 20mm overall track increase, front and rear. Ive spoken to TMU about it, when they got my mate, and they agreed with that paperwork, ur a** would be covered |

No standards. Maybe there NEEDS to be an Australia wide standard for these things?
All I can find out is that 2" is the max allowed to go over the size of rims but, I seem to remember that once it was calculated on the MAX size allowed for your model? Like the max for EF-EL was 17" for the model and AU was 18" and BA is 19"? Maybe I am wrong but finding any real info is like finding an honest Car Salesman |
