Righto, after a few good and a few miserable resprays in the past (most of them have been blow-overs) I'm after some tips and hints so this bare metal job I'm doing at the moment doesn't go to the dogs.
Firstly it an LJ Torana is being taken back to bare metal (50%done) using paint stripper and sanded with 80 grit just to get all the rest of the s**t and gunk off the body then went over with a fine sand to smooth over the surface. Have then lightly grinded the spots that needed filler to give it something to bond to. Shaped the dry filler, again using 80 grit and then hit it with 800 grit to feather the edges and smooth it off. Hit it with primer (acrylic) and then went over that with wet 1500 grit to get a nice smooth finish. So far so good, checked over the 1/4 gaurd and found alot of fine scratch marks so I then decided to give it a blast with filler primer and again sanded that with a wet 1500, still some very very very fine scratch marks. What is my next move for when I get to the next panel? Should I do it all diffrently? Is close enough going to be good enough? Is white going to be my best option with hiding imperfections, as its the colour I have already purchased. Any other ideas, all help will be much appreciated as it always is

if your respraying the car in a solid colour , fine scratches will not be noticeable. but If respraying in base or metallic with clear over the top , them fine scratches will show up.

You can see scratches because the paper you are using is too fine 1500 is used when sanding clear to be buffed. If you ask the question in the stickey at the top of this page I will happily answer so then it is there for all to see without searching
