Hey everyone.
Got an EB Fairmont. Now, as the pics will show you, the boot garnish is dirty on the inside.  
Dirt has gotten onto the painted metal part. I've prodded around, but I can't figure out a way to dismantle the garnish easily. I know this is not a major concern, but it digs at me everytime I look at it. 
As you can see, it's cemented together quite well. I was hoping for some insight. Ta. Oh, also (I did a search, I know there are topics, but I wanted some clarification) I hear it is possible to have power windows installed into cars that originally did not have them. I wanted to know if my EB Fairmont, which missed out on them, is suitable for this sort of thing? If so, where can I get it done? Would your average Auto service place be able to do it? Thanks.

not too sure on how to remove the garnish but they got it on so it must come off somehow, as for power windows, atm ftg auto salvage has regs for 100 each, u need 3 bolts or pop rivets to hold on the motor, and 2 to hold the rail to the window, then the combination switch, and yes it can be done to any car, theres a tech doco for it somewhere. good luck.

Its piss easy as long as you have a socket set.
1st take the black plastic sheet off (you will see this on the inside of the boot above the clip that locks the boot) 2nd you will see 8 small 8mm bolts 4 on top 4 on the bottom undo do those bolts. 3rd loosen reverse light sockets before the removal of the garnish to minmise damage to wiring. As for separating you guess is as good as mine HTFTDIT(f**k) A new garnish as quoted from FORD $330 as they are made by HELLA. Now it is easier to do this job with the boot lid off so if in the wreakers go ahead or you will have A SORE BACK

it looks more like its faded to me. Forget about opening it. the clear plastic cover is glued to the back part of the garnish the glue can be clearly seen in this pic:
if you try and seperate the two you will most likely crack the clear cover.

I thought it was faded too at first. But on closer inpspection i relaised it was dirt. Although it isnt obvious in those pics, there are marks through the dirt where water has dripped.
Thanks for the replies, seems I'll end up getting a new garnish. Suppose I'd have to order one through a Ford service centre?

True enough. I don't know what luck I'd have at a wreckers or other such place though. I don't live near a major city, fairly far out in the country, so not many wreckers around anyway.

Mabey less if you wait for one on ebay!

once you've got it off, how about drilling a couple of holes where they wont be noticed, filling it full of water and shaking the f**k out of it?

I agree with that & drill a couple in the tail lights aswell if they fillup with water. Try the site sponser XR8 dismantler for a garnish!

What model is you EB? I or II?
Check under the centre console to see if you have the power window loom already, if theres a wide empty plug there, youve already got it. In which case you only need the door wiring looms, motors, and switches to run power windows. You wont need to do any custom wiring. If your interested I have a rear garnish for sale from an EBII Fairmont.

Funny you should mention drilling holes, as the garnish already has holes drilled in it. I assume the previous owner did it to drain away condensation or something. However, good idea on the water thing, might give that a try.
Sturmovik - It's a plain EB. I'll see if I can check the centre console as soon as I figure out how it pulls apart. 
Ta for the offer on the garnish, I may try cleaning it first with the 'shake 'n' bake' method. Out of curiosity, how much were you asking for it?

rex, he meant is yours an EB series 1 or EB series 2? quickest way to tell is the front door speakers, if they're 4", its a series 1, if they're 6.5", its a series 2

Apologies, EB I is what I meant. Speakers are 4".
