Hey guys, my rear windscreen needs replacing. I've got a quote for $481, but I'd like it to be a bit cheaper..
I can get the windscreen for $110 and then they'll charge $120 to fit it. My question is, can I remove the old windscreen and fit the new one without special tools, I've never seen it actually done before, are the special tools or is it quite simple to just glue it on and refit the trims? Cheers.

its easy to fit...if u have seen them do it which u havnt...
to remove it you need some wire to cut through the glue or watever they use to secure the screen to the car. |

I didn't think it would be too hard. Do you know what type of glue is used or where to source it?

The front & rear windows are sealed in with urathane.
When replacing windows you will need to get new molds as you put a bead of sealer around the opening then put the window in then add more sealer & then push the new molds into the sealer.

hey buddy i am a windscreen fitter if your rear window is tinted and it is still held together smash it all out with a hammer and then u will be left with glass stuck to the glue use a stanly knife to cut the glue off and we use sika flex it is (uruitane) u can get it from super sheap we use sika tack drive it sets in 1 hour but for rears it needs to set a lil longer about 3 hours and to be safe i would get new moulds p.s u need a cleaning product called sika acctavator

And yeah, it's tinted, it's about the only thing holding the glass in place..

Mate if u have insurance they will install new glass for free. Ive change the screen on both of my cars, doesnt put ur policy up in price.

I'm with RACT and I have to pay a windscreen excess of $300 (it's better than the usual $900 excess). When I inquired about it I was told I had to select the 'no excess windscreen replacement', considering I pay them over $2000 per year you'd think they'd include it as standard...

it costs so much to do coz it's a (unt of a job.... i've toiled over a few ideas in the past, like running 12v through a nominal sized wire causing resistance (heat) and pulling it round the window from either side but never eventuated. put it in the too hard basket,
also you have to nominate windscreen replacement when you start your policy, or update.
