I don't know if it is the same in QLD, but if the lights are below the number plate, they are considered to be 'fog lights' and must be wired through a switch. You could wire them to come on with your high beams and as long as you have them controlled through a separate switch, you're all good and legal.

If the lights are above the number plate, they are 'driving lights' and don't have to have a separate switch.

This is just what I was told when I was getting a pink slip with low mounted driving lights...

Depends on how a cop looks at it.
In Vic the only difference between driving lights/fog lights is wether they're on a switch or not.
I'm not 100% sure as I don't actually have either in mine as yet but some mates have had experience with this (in a legal regard).
I think driving lights have to be wired to the high beams, not the lows.
Fog lights are not allowed to be on unless its foggy.

Where the cornering lights on a ghia get classified, I don't know but a mate of mine got fined for his, from memory.
Personally your car is probably going to attract a fair bit of attention, so better to have them on the seperate switch and only use them at the appropriate time. Saves getting fined because some copper decides he wants to get you for something.
