Here's a little mod I did to the reverse lights on my EL Fairmont wagon before.
It's a real cheap and easy mod for all E Series wagon owners.

BEFORE:

DURING: I cut the plugs with as much wiring as I could get from the old loom and added it to the existing loom by attaching the wires to the + and - so it would look factory. This way I wouldn't have to use any electrical tape when attaching wires...

Big thanks to Sexyr6 (Chris) for supplying the spare loom.

Nice work.

Is there a reason ford never hooked them up from factory?

Because they are built to a cost. Why use 4 fittings when you can use 2. Couldn't be anything else to it.

There are provisions for four globes but Ford only ever hooked up the top two which I find quite strange - You'd think Ford would have had one bulb per light situated in the centre so it would light up the entire thing.
All that was required to get the bottom two hooked up besides modifying the loom was to punch out the covers on the back of the lights for the bulb holders to screw into. To puch out the covers all I did was carefully work my way around the indentation with a hammer and a flat blade screw driver...The plastic is thin so it doesn't take much to punch the covers out.

If anyone needs more info about this mod please feel free to send me a PM. It's a cheap and easy mod and the results are excellent.

You can use a dremel with a cutting wheel - it is already marked out - very easy to see.

I've always thought it was weird how only half light up! I'll defiantly be doing this to my wagon when I get one (hopefully soon). Looks great!

A dremel would work well. I didn't have a dremel so I used a flat blade screw driver and a hammer and achieved the same result. The outline in the plastic is thin so it was extremely easy to punch the hole out.

It is a good mod.

I did this a few months ago and the light output is excellent.

Well done.

Cheers

Thanks BenJ.

I was amazed at the difference it makes. I don't know why I didn't do it sooner.

Pfft, just because you did it first.

As I recall, we talked together about it many moons ago, but you actually did it first, and credit due to you for that.
