hi all, searched exterior mods but could see a topic, want to buy an xr6/8 front grill & headlights etc for my ED. have been looking to do this but now ive got a cracked headlights so instead of getting one new light might as well do the front end swap. anyway ive heard someone does a kit aftermarket? is this correct or should i watch ebay for a few weeks for the parts to come up. roughly how much am i looking at for the grill, lights and indicators?
cheers

OMG the 'twinlight' set looks terrible. Nothing compars to the ED XR front.

They look very similar from a visual perspective.
However the XR light output sucks big time. The Twinlights have an awesome light output, which far exceeds any of the original Eseries lights. BenJ

A thought I have had is that it might be possible to make the ED XR6 grille fit these headlights? It's better than buying the Genuine Ford XR lights, $690.00 each |

i think to the untrained eye with the right grill (ED grills are ugly as, will look for an EA grill) almost no one could tell the difference. also ive read somewhere and like BenJ said the light from them cranks better than OEM. im not making an xr mock up im just making it look better (well that and i need a head light and indicator cos a mates wood pile collapsed on his farm and busted my light so better to kill 2 birds with one stone.)

I agree and, being a white car it should look pretty good. |

u will need an ea or eb bonnet to run the ea grille though, ed's have a special bonnet of their own
how much were the twinlights ? |

i swear the bonnets look identical? might ave to fibreglass up my own grill then. the lights were $540, got clear indicators too, $50 for the pair and about 30 for postage from bris to act

The top visible skin is identical, but the support structure underneath is different where the grill bolts on.

no probs , so what ur saying is that if i get an EA grill it should fit in the space all sweet but the holes for screwing it on wont line up? so i might have to re-drill so holes on the grill?

Actually, it is worse than that. An EA or EB grill on an ED bonnet will have some difficulty in bolting up. The screw hole locations are spaced the same, but the under bonnet skin bulges down on the ED bonnet, and you probably won't be able to fit the EA grill up there at all. I know this as I modded an ED grill to fit an EB bonnet, and had to fabricate spacers to fill the gap between the grill mounting tabs and the bonnet. The best suggestion I can offer, is to go to a wreckers where you can try swapping the parts around a bit. Then you will understand. BenJ

oooooo ok, with ya now. might just take the grill off and bend up some of that tackie tuner mesh into the grill shape and screw that on hahha. and to think, this was just a run-a-round car while my 68 vw squareback is getting painted and the missus drives my 07 modded up xtrail. cant help myself haha
