Hey there, iv decided to post a thread on how to put a EF/EL front on a EB, also I will be fitting a BA xr6 engine, gear box and dash.
Ill start with the car, its 92 EB GLI, 6cyl, 4 speed auto. I purchased it for a nice $300. It has the odd dent here and there and a bit of surface rust on it, however its never stepped foot in a panel shop (which is nice to know)... My idea is to see if a EF/EL gaurds would fit, so i purchased 2 gaurds off ebay for only $40 (no damage) and sat them on, they fit like a glove, however... i knew i that the EB radiator support would not fit the front gaurd bolt holes and wouldnt fir a EL bonnet, So iv only just made the purchase of a complete EL xr8 front bar, all lights and a radiator support off Ebay... just waiting for the courier to arrive. So far iv started work on the body, the hole car will be paint stripped, cleaned up off any rust, etch primed, primed, then itll be painted a dark pearl purple (perfect purple i think its called)... I thaught it would be a big job but its turned out pretty eazy then what i thaught... What ive done is gone to super cheap, purchased some paint stripper, and begun work on 1 pannel at a time. Stripped it back, cleaned it up with some 40 grit sander, used a red scotchy with some rust conversion to clean it up, repaired and small dents, etched it then primes, so far iv done 2 front doors, the boot lid, and 1 El gaurd, hopefully the car will be done with in a month or 2 at the latest (body wise and painted)...

Ill post a few pictures of what iv done so far, to give you guys an idea, also plz post any questions, ideas or comments and if your gonna post a smart a*# comment like "thats stupid" or "why would you bother" can you please explain why....

Also ill be looking at a mates mates XR6 Turbo sedan that he owned but has wrote it off and has no insurance... so he is selling it as is... iv heard he wants it pretty cheap... so all i want to salvage is the engine, turbo, gear box (by the way its a 4 speed auto), the dash and the complete wirring.

Iv read a few BA retro conversions on here, and it has finally inspired me to do it, iv also seen a few BA dash conversions on here, so now i know its possible i figured that it would probably be eazyer to pretty much transfer all the wiring and computers into the EB... as for the door trims i need some opinons: I reckon a set of EF/EL GHIA door trims would look sweet and get the top part of the door trims painted black to blend with the dash... iam not to keen on trying to fit BA door trims on unless some one here has done it and could explain how to do it, and some pics with it.

Well thats about it for now, ill set some photos up and ill keep you guys posted with some new pics as the time goes. Hope to hear some ideas... cheers people

PS: how do you post pictures?? iv been trying for a bit now...

ill give this a watch to see how you go.

i hope youve got some $ behind you for the motor transplant, as for the front end i like the idea good to be unique, although im unsure if it will make the front end of the car look a lil droopy from a side on perspctive because of the boxyness of the boxcar (got a side on shot with the gaurd? ).

big plans... nice work
with the door trims... go BA door trims if you're going BA dash.

otherwise it'll look s**t.
the door trims don't come anywhere near matching.

Yeah ill send a side on shot with guards on sometime this week, i have one of the gaurds stripped back and primed, and have just started on the 2nd one, also good news should have the EL radiator support and front bar in sometime next week, itll only take me a weekender to cut and swap, then ill post another pick of the car side on with the bar on.

Yeah id prefer putting BA trims on then the EL, only thing that iam worried about is how hard is it to fit the trims? would it be as simple as relocating screw holes and clips?? id defenetly give it a shot thow.

Considering you're planning on doing the dash and motor, i think the door trims will be easy.
added to the fact that you'll need pwoer window switches somewhere :P
