hi

i put a ed xr lights and grill in my ea today.
the problem is low beam works .when i flick to high beam the low beam
goes out and the high beam comes on.
but it should light up all 4 lights when on high beam.
they all work when i pull the high beam flasher.

it all worked properly before i changed the lights .
could it be a dirty conection or have i missed something?????

it might just be a dirty connection or maybe a loose wire. i had a vn commo  with the same prob. just check all the wires and see if they r nice and tight and any havent fallen out.

Altedxr6, no, thats not how its supposed to work, all four are meant to come on. I remember someone finding out the reason, and it had to do with a relay or something.

was to do with needing to change the relay from a 4 pin to a 5 pin and adding a resistor or similar.
pm him to find out

ok
ive tried all the conections checked the relays still no good.i looked in the factory manual and the scematics for fairlane/ghia and ltd has a link joining the output of the high beam relay to the low beam relay.
were the gl/s pac dont have this link

i took it to a auto elect and they said i have a wiring fault and i need to leave the car there for 1 day. i asked them about the link joining the releys together and they said that thats not my problem..
so i took it to another auto elect and they said that it was the high/low beam switch...????
but the original head lights worked fine...
but what i dont understand is that the car they came off has the same relay set up with no link that i can find! joining the relays together and they work fine on that car..

hi

thanks to john xr6 for his help...
i now have what i need to this and have wired it up but there is a problem with the way it works.
i have changed my low beam relay to a 5 pin change over relay added the wire to the resistor and conected the extra wire to the power from high beam relay.(i even went to the wreckers and striped the harnes to follow the wires to see where they go)

so in theory when i switch to high beam the low beam relay should switch over and the power from the high beam runs through the resistor into the middle pin on the reley switching the low beams back on???

the problem is that the 5th wire is supposed to have power going in to switch on the relay. but when i switch to high beam power now comes out.
and when i switch back to low beam the high beam stays on .. even when i turn the headlights off..????

Well my relay is not attached to my engine bay as the last time the panel beaters didnt attach it & I had the probelm of low beam coming on when ever I drove over a bump or speed hump so now it sits behind the rod that hods the battery.

As for my lights I have the same problem as TMAN NK.

well
ist been a while but i finally got around to fixing my problem..
i had done everything right but for some reason the ea headlight relay is set up slightly different..
but all i had to do after adding the extra wire and 5 pin relay. i had to swap the wire that goes to pin 30 on the relay with pin 87. now it works .....
:D :D
