now, i was pretty happy with the headlights on my sprint as they were when i bought it, but soon chucked a set of narva arctic blue bulbs into both high and low beam lights
now i find high beam is piss poor, and low beam is pretty ordinary, but enough for around town, but what i'd like to know is, given other models reputation for burning the chrome off the plastic reflectors when high wattage bulbs are fitted, is it safe to fit a set of 130W bulbs into the high beam lights on my ED XR, or will the chrome suffer on them too?

Not sure whether u will get away with 130w without running a relay, consider narva plus 50's, standard wattage but use xenon gas to produce 50% more light then standard, I used them in my xr8 and was a good improvement.

Fitted my car with 130/90's. The only problem i had was the melting of the the plug inside the headlight on the hi/lo beam lamp. Have gone back to the 60/55's untill i can fix this problem.
