I heard that for the XR Front to function properly there is a switch or diode that needs to be changed under the coolant overflow bottle. Is this the case or is there a different procedure for it. My car is an ED if that helps any.

Cheers

Kyle

you need to have the blue 5 pin relay in your low beams and add the yellow diode link to the wiring plug under the reservior tank..
and it should work fine

Hello,

As demonstrated by troyman here... i just bought an XR front and this arvo have trced the wiring and have a complete circuit diagram of the headlamps now if anyone wants it...

procedure is... under black cover beside battery attached to mudguard is 4 relays... 1 yellow 3 grey... the middle grey is the low relay...

this 4 pin relay needs to be exchanged with a 5 pin commonly blue relay that has an "87a" contact in the centre...

under the header tank there is an empty clear plug t arrangement with two female spade contacts in it... from my schematics I have traced out you can either buy this yellow diode (which i have heard about but not seen yet) or just straight bridge it out with a wire link (make sure wire is of heavier gauge to take both the low beams current... A diode (based on a 93 ED falcon) is not necessary as there is not current that flows in reverse...

now the lows come on with the low... and both when the contacts are changed over to the high relay...

actually i should have verified that its actually a fusable link or has been called a diode..
so yes you can just run a fuse between the link instead..

troyman...

Ah.... so its not a diode? its a fuse? makes sense... i was going over my schematics and just couldn't figure why this "diode" would be needed... the blue one already under the header tank has a diode symbol on it... but was unsure what this yellow one could be...

Thanks...

Hey Hey,

Yeah thats it... went and plug my lights in as i haven't paint the grill yet and went through for half an hour or so with a test lamp plugging and unplugging stuff until i sorted out and finally drew up the wiring diagram for those relays...

I'll tell you what very clever set up... However i have discovered that this so called "diode" which dad (who works at ford here) is going to find out off the computer tomorrow... i dsicovered that it isn't required... only a wire bridge is required... maybe a diode on earlier models? but an 93 ED just needs a straight bridge and 5 pin relay to make the highs and lows come on together...

like i said i have it drawn up should anyone want a copy i'll just scan it in...

small world hey?

nice meeting you... sick looking car...

catch ya...
