i recently replaced my headlights with brand new ones as my original were yellow and really couldn't see anything out of it. I also replaced the globes with 60/55w white globes but the light im getting is still crap. What else do i need to do to actually see the road at night? im pretty much depending on my nl fog lights to direct me. Is there a way to insulate the light inside so the area is smaller to direct the light so i can actually see?

when u fitted the new lights did u take the car out to a dark road and set them up correct, and aim them down at the road with the 2 adjusting screws?

yea i have done that, there just nit bright enough. i was going to put in 95/100w globes but was worries that it would melt the headlights. Its pretty much like having my parkers on but if you look at it from another car they look fine?

what globes are u using, some of the "blue" globes available are worse than the standard 60/55's,
u dont want to go too white/blue as your vision in rain/wet conditions is basically nothing i have narva blue power globes in my el fairmont and they are good, have 80 percent more light and are 20 whiter than standard. |

ahh, that might be my problem i got some no name brand. With what your saying that my vision would be basically nothing in rain to wet conditions is true. So if i go the narva ultra blue h4 globes it would make a pretty big difference?

the more yellow in a globes light, the closer it is to sunlight.
if u buy some standard 80/100w halogen globes or narva plus 50's (50 percent brighter) and put them in they will light up the road better than the standard globes and should be okay by not melting the plastic reflectors in the headlight. dont quote me on the not melting part, mine were alright for 2 years with 80/100w but i dont know the quality of your lights. i have recently replaced my globes with the narva blue power and they are brighter and have a longer beam too. but are not as good as the 80/100w in the wet weather. |

Are you sure you have adjusted the lights correctly, by using a proper adjustment machine or white board?
I found setting the lights correctly will make a massive difference to how well the road is lighted up in front of you. Not just the height, but the left and right direction of the beam. Also, is your car lowered. A lowered car will have a shorter light path than a stock height one. And also again, what sort of lights did you get. Genuine Ford, or aftermarket cheapies? |

It's "lit up" not lighted  .Yeah I have similar issues with my lights...it's a b**ch in the rain. Haven't changed the light bulbs yet...

Ive adjusted the lights a fair few times, nothing seems to make a difference.
the car is sitting fairly low with ultra-lows, gas tank and a full system but still i should be able to at least see 1m in front of me. the globes i had where aftermarket cheapies so i don't reckon they would of helped but you mention you can adjust the left and right of the direction? i have only done the height, how do i adjust the left and right beam level cause it might make a difference |

There is a screw on the top close to the indicator and a knob on the back. Cant remember which does which.
Specs for lining up headlights are to put car on level ground, 5m away from a wall set at 90 deg to the ground. Find the centre of the low beam light from the centre of the car and then the ground and mark these on the wall. Then measure 50mm straight down from that mark. So this mark is directly opposite the centre of the low beam bulb, but 50mm lower. When you turn the headlights on, you will see the beam (from right to left) is a flat line, then it kicks up on a 20 deg angle. You need to aim the point where it kicks up at the mark on the wall. Pays to cover each light one at a time as you adjust them. Makes it easier to see the 'shape' of the beam. If you do that, the lights should be perfectly aligned. If you aim them higher, you will just blind oncoming traffic and point the light away from the ground. But given your running on ultralows, your car is already say 80/90mm lower than stock, and you have to aim the beam 50mm lower than that...
