i have gone over to using the EF mirrors on my EB i like the shape of them over the s**t square ones on the EB.

Tools needed
Drill
half inch drill bit
5 mil drill bit
Phillips head screw driver
Flat head Screw Driver
Tube of sikaflex
Case of cold beer or what ever you like to drink for after you do a great job of it.

Parts needed
EF/EL mirrors
EF/EL front weather strips
EF wagon rear Weather Strips (up to you if you use them)


I have a few photos of it being done, and i would like to say that the people that tell you all they had to do was drill just one hole and add nothing else must of been un fussy of there car looking like s**t or they were BLIND.

After you drill the holes needed, they Dont tell you good people that you DO need the weather strip from an EF or EL, if you don’t you end up with a gap of almost an inch and a half showing paint between the ef mirror and the weather strip, you cant half tell it don’t look right even a 1 eyed blind man could see it dont.

Here you can see the difference in length of the weather strips the top one is the left front of a EF and the bottom is left front of a EB, the ef one is longer and this is what is needed.

Left side after i drilled the needed hole, the hole needs to be half inch in size to allow the shaft of the mirror that the screw goes into (DONT drill a half inch hole all the way in to the other side) use a 5 mil drill bit.

Best first use a 5 mil drill bit to drill all the way to the other side, you may notice that part of the door is tripple skined. when you have drilled all the way to the other side of the door you then use the half inch drill bit to only drill through 2 layers of door skin, this will allow the shaft of the mirror to go in enough.


A side note if your worried about drilling the holes in the wrong place and stuffing it up get 2 stuffed mirror bases (EF or EL), then break of the bottom shaft and the shaft that’s near the front of the car, leave the top shaft in place as that’s going to be your locating lug, now with a 5 mill drill bit drill out the 2 shafts you broke off to the other side if you wish you can use the half inch bit to do it, now what you just made is a template to do it the easy way, now put the top shaft in the top hole now sit the new template you just made with the holes that you can use a pencil or texter to mark were the holes should be, this way you cant stuff up were the holes should go, right way first time.

Left hand side inside of door you can see the hole is smaller, also you can see the new EF weather strip in place.

You can see the new EF weather strip tucks under the mirror like it should


This is the gap between the weather strip of the EB and the EF mirror i was talking about see how s**t it looks.

You can see on the drivers side i drilled the 3 holes as the shaft on the pas side was broken so i didn’t worry about drilling it i sikaflext it.

Now you ask about the wiring i will update this soon as this week end i will be putting on the new EF Ghia door trims and i will do that then
and I will amend this post

Oh before i forget if you do change the weather strips you will need the back ones to match, no sedan ones will not fit they are to short, you will need rear left and right ones of a EF wagon you will find at the rear 1/4 windows the rubber is a bit short i will figure that out later.

Reason is the shape of the EF weather strips arnt the same as the EB ones keep that in mind if you wish it all to match.

It was interesting to note as well, that I will need the rear strips from an EF Wagon. That was something else we hadn't thought about before.

i did it to my old ebxr except i painted the mirrors white the same colour as the car .
i recon white car looks good with white mirrors.

I've been thinking about this for my EB and I should have most of the stuff required too.

I just can't quite decide whether the droopy EF/EL mirror's totally suit the boxy box-car shape.

very nice bunter... A VERY WORTH WHILE UPGRADE.. im unsure of black mirrors... but atleast they are a heck of alot more modern looking...

O never noticed that eh, there was a difference? I'm well versed in EF/EL, but can't really tell an EB or ED apart. EA v EB, ED is easy enough though.

Yes, the EA ones were awful.

The EF ones give a more purposeful look to the car in my opinion. Well they do on mine anyway.

Series 2 EA's had the XF ones as well. I replaced mine on the weekend with some colour-coded EF ones too. Now just need to get my EF door handles painted up and it'll look mad!
