Having found a tiny spec beginning in my rear door near the catch, where else should I look and protect to delay it becoming a steaming pile of rust...?

Yep definately near the boot and along all of its seals, also if youve got a spoiler they tend to get bits of surface rust around the edges, also check inside of door frames etc. Ive got a couple of little surface rust spots but its not that bad..........

Look under the car inboard side of door sills.
Rear and front windows around the edge. Check between the door pillars and the front door hinges and around that area. Check the overlap between sheet metal in engine bay. Inside of boot around the edges, also check that the filler used between the boot skin and inside frame is not brittle. Thats about it. Most common spot I found is the inboard side of door sills under the car. |

Pull out the inner gaurd of the front wheel arch....look towards the rear of the car, in near the front door hinges etc. had mine out a while back and pulled about 1kg of dirt from each side, i imagine gets pretty gross when full of water etc. Lol, thought it was some sort of cladding at first but had a dig with ol' flathead and it started crumbling. Also in the engine bay... top right and left hand corners (i.e. near compliance plate and opposite side) tends to get a lot of leaf litter building up.

I have 1 or 2 tiny specs of rust on my roof. Nothing serious yet.
Also on drivers side in engine bay, on the wall under the steering rod is some around a weld seam. Paint has flaked off it and so on. |
