Quote: Are the original side skirts and front and rear add ons for EL and EF xr8 available from Ford. I would much prefer to use the original than a copy. If so does any one know how much?
The genuine Tickford kits (plastic not fibreglass) are availble from ford but they are a crazy price. I got a quote about a year ago for an EL Tickford bodykit from ford and it was about $7,000.00 - $8,000.00 not including a boot spoiler, GST or shipping. The Ford parts guy started laughing at me as soon as I asked about the price. |

Are you serious!! I am not talking about he whole fron bar including the lights - i just want the optional side skirts and lips that attach to the original bumpers. That price is crazy. I could almost buy a whole car for that price.
How about the wreckers - i suppose they dont come up to often. |

Tried to get a front skirt from ford $760.00 unpainted. So I had a fiberglass guy repair mine. |

7 grand for a kit - errrr I don't think so. I've heard of stupid prices but thats not right. I got a price from Ford a few years ago for an original EL kit (front & rear lips, skirts and spoiler) for $1500 with the Ford employee discount. Retail was about $2200 if I remember correctly...

I had the body kit priced at $700 a skirt and $250 for the rear bar, and just under a thousand for the front bar, and that was with the employee discount. All unpainted.

My price to members for that kit is $693, unpainted.
It's always recommended to test fit before painting. That applies especially to the front and rears, because they're mounted on pretty flexible bits of plastic. Also, there's a risk of parts being scuffed in transit. In summary, there are several risks in doing it that way and for what? Unless you're going for an el cheapo paint job (which you'll regret later) why would it automatically save you any money getting things painted somewhere far away, rather than locally, where you can check on the job, colour match etc. and know where to insert the parts if they get it wrong! One thing I read many years ago when I started out in the industry is something any consumer should think about: "the disappointment of poor quality lasts much longer than the excitement of a "bargain" ". Cheers, Bob
