i have been toying with this idea of making my own sequential bonnet vents for quite a while

i liked the look of the vent but couldnt afford the commercially available ones,
im regularly playing around with fibreglass and have made quite a few fibreglass parts over the years and modified even more

finally i have made a mould and made my first prototype
im thinking i'll probably make a matching drivers side vent in the next month or so, and also an airbox lid with a matching hole to the vent/scoop,with some foam to take up the gap inbetween the 2. also they could be modified to suit standard falcon and fairmont bonnets.
if i can sell a few, my next project will be a rear lip spoiler for the EF EL sedans, any maybe one for the NF NL DF DL fairlanes and ltd's

anyway here's a couple of quick pics of the prototype
it has a slightly bigger opening (approx 25%) than the others around
and is more towards the EL style vent, in this pic it still needs to have the opening smoothed and rounded
the fibreglass vent/scoop will be made with a gelcoat finish, ready to rub and prime, this one is just a raw finish with some black etch primer over it to suss the shape and looks, it is pictured sitting in a section cut from an EL XR6 bonnet
the gap between bonnet and vent is 3mm like the original
i will update the thread with new pics as i go

this thread is for interests sake only atm, i will need to start a for sale thread to sell any products
production will start in approx 2 weeks, and pricing is still being worked out (better price for Fordmods members.) :D , i will probably sell a few through ebay too.

any interest, idea's / feedback is welcomed

cheers, craig

looks really good Craig :)...one for the drivers side would be good...would help the turbo boys a lot for more fresh air .

i need someone in sa to let me try it on their car, i need a pic or 2 of it fitted.

drivers side vent is easy enough, just need to find some time, 1st mould took 12 hours all up just to make

Very interested mate.
Its great to see someone finally get into doing this again.
I think you would easily be able to sell a heap of them as most of the guys on here are seeking cooler air...

Cheers

Sam

thanks for your support and comments guys,

elmattxr, i will be making them as in the pictures above
do you have an original radek one? or a 0011hsv (ebay) scoop
if you want a matching drivers side scoop to the one you have i may be able to make one up,
but i would have to see it in person to be able to get the same shapes,
do you know anyone in sa with the same one?

once i have a drivers side mould done in a few weeks i may be able to modify it to suit your needs

no probs sam, will start from the list here

yeah i will make an airbox lid, no point having a scoop that does nothing
i might even be able to use the original airbox lid and just supply a template to cut yours out and i'll supply the foam surround to glue on,
then all you need to do is mount a pod in your airbox, i could supply the modified airbox flange too, mine is currently using a 45degree 3.5" mandrel pipe but i could do a 3" one, lol
will see how things go...

when i have a couple ready i will start a For Sale thread, with a link back here incase anyone has ideas or questions, so all can see it.

nah mate i dont have the scoop as yet but seen the sequential one and thought it stood out abit,i was hoping to just go with that size but i like your too.i most likely will just go with your scoop when you do a drivers side.if possible can you take a front on pic with the scoop sitting flat on a table??
cheers matt

i have rubbed the scoop back and fixed some minor marks etc and reprimed it with grey etch, you can see the shape a bit better.
im still thinking about the mounts for it, might glass some bolts in and use spacers on the underside, to bolt on as per original

a couple more pics
Image
Image

the opening is about 85mm wide and 60mm deep, the top of the scoop sits about 60mm above the bonnet,

Image
Image

im guessing the ebay one sits about 45mm above the bonnet, looks like the whole base of the scoop is raised in the centre and then the scoop is ontop of that

i need someone in sa with an ef el xr6/xr8 to try it on and get pictures

thanks for the extra pics :D i like it looks very efective but i say one thing looks tall and would be cop bait big time.not sure but i think it would be a defect because of the raised flat surface???
any clues yet to a price though mate

they'll be packed with a note saying "offroad use only"
i could make a lower one but using the same styling, and suppy the buyer with some wingnuts
when he gets spotted by the law, just duck around the corner and quickly swap them over
...or hinge the top part and you hit a button to make it drop down flush
