to those who were under the impression they were one and the same (yes, i know there are those out there, do a search to prove it)
Heres a good indication of the shape difference.

Now don't go and think i was an idiot and purchased them thinking they *were* the same. I'm putting a fairmont front on my car and need to see how much the bumper needs changing but heres the shots :P

damn it looks dodgy!

The Fairmonts and Fairlanes (headlights) were wider to allow for the bonnet grille.

Well I'll be buggered! I thought they were exactly the same for EF GLi, Futura, Monty through to EL Monty...

That is a bloody wicked idea, going the Monty front. Will look bloody awesome and IMO it's a hell of a lot better than the shedloads of "XR" front conversions that are going around. Plus, I think the Monty front looks better than the XR front...

Good onya for being diffrent. :D
