I've been trying to sort out what to do with the a*** end of my Futura. This Futura is one day going to be a Fairlane. The only stationwagon EF Fairlane in the known universe? Hmmmmm. I'm trying anyway... Have all sorts of bits happening that are getting there, but the Fairmont does not have an LSD that I can slip into the Futura, so will have to keep looking... Anyways... I *hate* having the gawd awful tailights from the typical EA - EF wagon. They suck... They look 80's... And the 80's sucked... So, I look at going more modern. The EL ones are getting slightly better, having a clear lens instead of that amber rubbish, so I've been asking everyone if they make a totally clear tail light - They don't. They do for VN wagons and the like, but not the Ford. Sods. I'm a bit of a Deep Purple fan, so now I wanna go back to the 60's... Trouble being (there had to be a catch) there's a $350 "minor certification" fee for changing the lights to XR (1967-68?) lights. Although, I may be able to get away with it as they are the same car, just a slightly different model. The lights measure 220mm diameter. The standard EA - EF lights are nowhere near that. However, if you remove the old light completely you are left with this....... Can get these lights for next to nothing off the net and will be able to make a mounting rig in the corner easily enough. Maybe make a spacer up so they will be 20mm or so proud of where this print on A4 paper sits in photo... The car will, most likely, end up a metalic silver with a touch of blue through it...  The other option could be to put the 60's lights into the boot and keep the standard (yawn creating) ones...

the lights recessed too deep,may have a vision problem----smash,the other ones give a 90 deg view.xf sedan series 1 had a lot of front-side prangs,bad indicators-----later had bumper indicators--less prangs.

I reakon tis not as indentened either Froudey. However nice your picture looks (and that was how I originally planed for the lights to be) the simple fact is that for that to work the lights would have to be 130mm in diametre, but they are 220, hence the angle. Hmmm... I suppose I could go real trick and decrease the angle and bring them out - but they'll never come out as far as your graphic illustrates - I've tried fitting them wih my paper cutouts and there's just no way. I can shape something out of polysterene and cover in fibreglass to remake the old corner where original light has been removed... Or I could just mount them in the boot and leave the orignal lights there, but touch them up to hide their eye grabbing boringness. Hmmmm again.... |

If it was me i would try and centre them lights like my crude picture and build the side up with foam and shave it until it looks right and then fibreglass the foam...

Yeahp... Only thing being --- It would look more like the following pic (just firing up photoshop again, be back in a minute...)
ALSO - Since I have two sets of side indicators from the trim between front doors and front wheel arch I was thinking I could put them into the trim near the rear corner - thus allowing people to see indication from the side quarter... A little too big...
Which really sucks, as I like this shout out to old school... Unless someone can point me towards totally clear ones... http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =161063443 AND - This light, by accident of me and late night photoshop, is actually bigger than it is in this picture. I suppose I could start chopping the inch of overlap off the boot!!!

i dunno about the tail lights, but I have to say your threads always crack me up for some reason. Why do you always do weird a** photoshops and stuff ?
BTW Holden had a commodore from 1986-88 with a Nissan Inline 6 Motor the RB30 as you said. I think that's what you were thinking of. :s |
