Yeah I tried it and it doesnt work. Stuffed the headlights.
They need a s**t of sanding to get that crap off or I'll probably just get some new ones unless I sell it first. DONT USE NULON THROTTLE BODY CARBY CLEANER. Thanks one mile sniper you f**k. |

try some 1500 wet & dry (wet of course) and then some light cutting compound and then some plastic polish that you would use for headlamp covers. brings em up pretty good.not like new but pretty close depending on the time you put in.

For anyone wanting their EF/EL headlights cleaned in Melbourne, Give FAIRMONTS GEAR a call. 9548 7000. 1350 North Rd. South Oakleigh.
I think I remember seeing something in the office there about headlight cleaning.

Ive tried repeated buffing with Plexus and it does a reasonable job removing the clouding but doesnt really effect the color.

i did my headlights about two months back, they were only slightly yellow but were really cloudy. got rid of the yellow with about 30mins of scrubbing with toothpaste, then buffed them with meguires scratch x. came up a treat.

I still remain that it is best to get replacement headlights.. Swap with someone who has reconditioned lenses. All they do is replace the plastic lenses as they are what yellow. Be better than stock. 8)

MADNC8 from e-series works for a place in Geelong that reco's headlights...and AFAIK, one of their 'specialties' is fixing the yellow ef lenses problem...DO NOT USE sand-paper to DIY...it will end up worse over time...if anything, use a spray on stuff called PLEXUS...it is not available from many places...but it does work better than anything else - short of replacing with reco'd lenses / newies.
Price wise from MADNC8 was ~$125 - I suspect that was changeover too...not a bad price IMHO...it's guaranteed too I think. Plexus is about $15-$20 a can too from memory...depends who you know Cheers, Steve |

I did this about 8 months ago and they still look like new.
You will need the following: 1 x sheet wet and dry 600 1 x sheet wet and dry 800 1 x sheet wet and dry 1200 1 x sheet wet and dry 2000 detergent water tape (nothing too sticky, something like plastic packing tape will do) screwdriver Plexus, turtle wax, or some other polishing element Sanding Block prepare the car by removing the indicator. The screw is located in the engine bay just above the indicator. Slide it out. Next run tape uder the headlight the length of the bumper. Apply a couple of layers as they will wear through. ok now we are ready.... get a bucket of water mixed with detergent and dunk the wet and dry 600 in. start sanding slowly with light pressure, in a back and forth motion from left to right. keep dunking the sandpaper because it will clog fast. It will take some time, however be patient because soon you wil notice it has developed a milky film on the lens. next repreat the process with the 800, then the 1200, and finally the 2000. It should be nice and clear at the time you are ready to use the 2000 wet and dry, but i prefer to use it as it gets the finer detail. ok now apply the plexus (or whatever wax you have). this is it. your lens should look brand new. this has worked really well for me. If you want some pics of the process just PM me.

Yeah 1mile Sniper you C*nt. I luckily used only a little bit of it and wasn't so bad with mine. But basically same thing happened to my Headlight went more opaque than before. I have to get the Sand paper out when I have time to take the s**t off.

Thanks one mile sniper you Make Love. what damage did it do? Yeah with my EL to begin with my drivers side headlight as never had any problems and has always been clear as a bell. The problem headlight is the passsenger side one which has only ever been slightly yellow. Cause when you compare both headlights the passenger one sticks out like dogs balls. Anyway I have tried all the sanding back methods then the, "Mequiars X scratch" and it has slightly been an improvement. So I tried that "Nulon Throttle/Carby cleaner, "Sniper recommended and It just made the Headlight more opaque and if you look closer at it its got like little "Crows feet" on it now
