You no good at reading? YOU DONT NEED TO DRILL ANYTHING FOR THE NUMBER PLATE SURROUND ON ANY MODELS, GLi to FAIRMONT GHIA. The number plate screws hold it into place. You don t need to remove the spear to fit the number plate surround. The spear needs drilling, OR you can glue it/tape it in place. |

Also if you cannot read i have always said "i think" so it's just on top of my memory. Don't need to get commando on me. I checked mine out, if you can look at my picture that i have taken can you explain to me why is the mounting screws thing behind my surround or was i special that i got a unique one that also makes it difficult for would be thieves to easily take my shiny chrome surround out. If you mount it properly instead of using double sided tape it will not come out of you're boot lid so easily. PS. There is supposed to be four screws but ones missing on mine.

Can anyone confirm if the surround atcually mounts to the boot or just to the number plate?
It seems strange that it would just hold on to the numbr plate, it doesn't seem secure enough? Cheers, Pat

Your options are the way i see it:
Double Sided Tape Drill and Secure. Not sure if there's any more options then this. Hope this helps.

Dont glue the spear, It is quite heavy and when boot is open and closed you are asking for trouble. Spear MUST be screwed on for proper fitment. Ford NEVER used double sided tape for this. The number plate surround could be glued but i would use all mounting screws to attach it. It isnt only attached by no plate screws. The ones to hold number plate on may be sufficient but remember if you numberplate gets stolen they get a free ghia surround!

On another note.... does anyone know how i can take off the the grille on an ef mont? I know there's 7 bolts 4 on the top and 3 on the bottom... the 3 on the bottom were easy to remove but the 4 at the top sit much further in to the bonnet so the bolt is too long for my socket or spanners wht have other's used?

Those screws you showed in your pics flick out - you dont need them - I've fitted them before without them. The 4 screws on your number plate are PLENTY!

ef_paddy wrote: Already got the fairmont chrome spear on the boot... I trust you guys when you sayit's the same but is it just me when it looks like it's only the outer lip of the surround that looks chrome? asizzy wrote: The First pic you have there is whats on the second pic.
Well i got the surround today and you were wrong it's only chrome around the outside so there part that surrouds the number plate is not all chrome. Thanks for giving me the wrong info... If you hadn't been 100% sure i would have preferred you didn't comment. Well anyway after wasting mony could somone confirm if an of the el number surrounds came with chrome on the inside of the area i have marked? The one i have marked seems to be and that's what i'm after. Any help is appreciated guys.
