Nice grilles guys, makes me want to do something with mine (if I ever get up the courage/skill).
{USERNAME} wrote: can u tell me if the EL futura's grill attaches to the bonnet or to the bumper.. Dunno about Futuras, but on my Fairmont it's on the bonnet, and pretty sure its the same with all the Falcons I've seen (but don't quote me as I've never stopped a stared at a Falcon bonnet long enough). The bonnet curves around the headlights and finishes beneath the grille. {USERNAME} wrote: Apologies for the 'silly' questions compared to you smarty pants guys No worries mate. I'll probably be asking a ton of 'em as I do stuff to my car. |

Thanks man, Im stoked with the result, and your monty is mint with that grille and the black backing. The little bit of mesh really carries a big improvement. Cheers, Russ.

And now to revive this thread with a twist, my latest installment of EL Mods.
Thanks to Fordmods for being such an awesome resource of information and inspiration, I knew I had to go to SuperCheap to get the mesh grill, so I whilst I was there thought I'd grab some driving lights as they were on spesh. The SC mesh, being aluminium, is way easy to bend and mold to what ever you need it to do, and I was able to get a nice neat and tight fit, using the old grill as a base ( I just hack-sawed off the protruding plastic which holds the "wishbone" in place. allowing for a flat fit). The bottom intake guard too was a sinch, just cut out a rough shape and bent it around with some long nose pliers. Now as for the aforementioned light purchase, I just didn't like the way i had seen them mounted on other models of the same caliber, so I got to thinking that the cheapest(and easiest in my case due to lack of fibreglassing skills), was to mount them some way behind the mesh. I found a piece of RHS in the shed and was able to find a good place for some tek screws to bite into to hold steady this piece. Now all this went on by the way without taking any of the front bar off. So as the pictures tell, I mounted the light brackets to the RHS, and then to the bottom intake, making sure to leave enough room to put the mesh back and for wiring the additions up.

Cheers mate, I'm super happy with it, works well at night too plus the grill protects the lights from any stone chips etc. I've been tossing up getting a badge for the front, I think it looks pretty mean imo, ha even the old man said he couldn't make out what sort of car it was so maybe I do!

each to their own really, either way it's an improvement from stock, in the process of doing the mesh to mine, destroyed the grill taking it apart due to a bunch of previous hairline fractures i didn't notice, so i gave up on neat detail, just a lick of paint and some mesh, will post a pic on this or my own thread in the next couple of days.
