Basically it involves a lot of cutting and hacking to get another HID projector to fit inside the XR low beam module.

I did some testing tonight with an XR low beam unit that I got my grubby hands on.
HID kit in std XR low beam HID kit in XR low beam with glass lens removed HID projector without Glass lens HID projector behind glass lens As you can see, there is a massive difference between a projector designed for halogen and a projector designed for a HID Xenon light source. You can see the XR lens diffuses the light just a touch, enough to take away the sharp focus of the HID projector, but it doesn't reduce the output all that much. What doesn't show up in the pic is the blue on the cutoff line, this is completely removed when the projector is behind the XR glass lens. So for all those people that say it's perfectly fine to have a HID kit fitted to Ford XR's because they have projectors, you are sort of right. It's much better for other drivers as it maintains a sharp cutoff with no glare, but look at all the light your missing out on if you used a real HID projector. Unfortunately, I dont have a std falcon headlight to demonstrate with. |

Unfortunately the XR lowbeam I got didn't come with a globe and I don't have one lying around so I cant check.
All I would expect is it to look very similar to the HID, just not as bright. It might change the light spread a tiny bit, but the alignment of the light source between the two (halogen and HID) are very close. |

If you could cover one headlight so you can get a photo of just one light, it would be a good comparison. It wont show true brightness (mine didn't either really) but it will show if there is any difference in the light spread.

My photo's had the camera and projector at about 18ft from the wall. But anything, as long as it gets as much of the output as possible, would be good.

Thanks for that. They're perfect.
Something surprised me in those pictures. See the circled area in this picture, it doesn't seem to be as strong when fitted with a HID kit. That means fitting a HID, while making it brighter, would actually reduce the width of the beam. |

Those reflectors are only good for use as a high beam. There is nothing shaping the light for low beam use at all.

Got some new shots form a mini meet and cruise.
Here's a little 'feature' that I mentioned a couple of pages back. I can change between red and white, depending on who is around at the time. In case anyone is wondering. They are not my parkers, I wired them to a separate switch for show purposes only. |

Got anything in mind for where the turning lights go (as in Fairlanes)??

You would suspect correctly.
Something has crossed my mind. But it's on the back burner for a while. I want to finish off my wheels and get the car tuned before I embark on any more light modifcations. I've also got some more plans for the interior that I will work on as I find the parts for it. Plus, I have a set of BA lights I'm working on at the moment that need to be finished. I'm just trying to get a donor pair of lights for not much. |

awesome thread mate, its exactly what ive been thinking about doing.
my lights are decent (EF gli with narva +50's in them) as i polish them every few months by hand, but even so, after logging a fair few late night k's this week, its reminded me of how average the general design of them is... theretrofitsource got me thinking just last night and then i stumble on this.. perfect |

so as summary how do u go fitting hid to el gli can u get a certain hid bulb or do u gotta sand the plastic lens
