Hello! I wondering if anybody is willing to give me some advice on doing up my EL wagon. (please see attached photo)
Its a standard Falcon Futura Wagon (EL 1998) and at the moment it looks pretty boring! I know hardly anything about doing up cars... but the first things I was thinking of doing was a) lowering the car, b) putting some mags on it. Then I'd like that strip around the side to be black?? i dont know if i'd paint it or replace or just leave it? I was also wondering if its possible to swap the headlights for XR6/XR8 EL lights? Is that possible? Then I thought of giving it a good dark tint!? Please add your comments/suggestions! Much Appreciated!

Hi and welcome to Fordmods.
My first suggestion is to read a few garage threads regarding various mods that can be done. To lower your wagon you will need lowered front coil springs and possibly matching shocks, and the rear can be lowered using either lowering blocks or reset leaf springs. Re the side strips, black is for base spec cars, and white looks much cleaner in my opinion. The front headlights can be replaced with xr items, but you need deep pockets, different bumper bar, bonnet and other parts. Tint is a good option, but don't go too dark or you might get defected. Hi,
You can buy a twin-light conversion. It will not be cheap at around $650I think, but you will have much better lights. The XR front will mean replace the bonnet, and front bumper assy. The indicators are different and no longer available new. In time or a Fat girlfriend the springs will sag.... It is normally a good idea to change the shocks at the same time as the springs though, as they often start to leak with the change of ride height. Regards 96ELGli Edit http://www.twinlight.com.au/ Hope this helps

Unfortunately, I don't believe they sell twin light conversions for the GLi/Futura front end. They do sell them for the fairmont models.
A quick check on their website would confirm this. Cheers BenJ

They are leaf springs that are reset to the ride height that is needed.

You have to take your leaf springs to a spring specialist and pay them $200 + to have the retensioned to the height you want.
Or you purchase the King Springs leaf packs, and swap them in at home. OR, use lowering blocks and install them at home. In reality, if you had to ask the question, you need to take your car to a suspension place and get them to do it for you. Cheers BenJ

Flip the shortest leaf over, bolt back to lead setup.
Chop a coil off the front. |
