Ok long story short this morning I lost it in the wet spun out and hit a couple star pickets.
Anyway it's left damage to the front left guard indicator and further damage to the bumper, the rear quarter and slightly on the bumper. well I can probably attain bolt on panels at various wreckers, but the front bumper I believe will be a bit difficult to get being Fairmont, so I'm thinking I might do what I've been thinking about and graft the bf bumper on the bottom and get it sprayed along with beat out my rear guard bog and spray it. Anyway simply I can't justify buying the panels and getting them sprayed, so what I was wondering was, I'm gonna need to learn to spray eventually as i want to do my xl down the track. but I'm not sure how much I'm gonna be looking at for paint, how much paint I'm gonna need where to get it, I'm in Brisbane by the way, and what else I'm gonna need thinners clear etc. cars gunmetal grey k1 ef mont. any help would be much appreciated.

Mate its not that easy to paint, you need alot of hours to get it to even look good.
I have been spraying a few months and yes i spray really good and tafe teachers/boss think so too but i would never want that finish on my car.. you will be able to tell what was done by you and then you will loose a lot of value when selling. Get the new front bar and all panel work done and get a full re-spray minus door jams etc. wouldn't cost that much for the same colour. if you want to spray yourself, you dont need to worry about mixing your colour because some paint shops will mix it for you and then all you have to do is spray. Yeah I wish but for the cost of the car basically I don't care about resale, I can't see there being enough in it to bother getting it resprayed professionally, my aims just to clock up another 50-100k at this stage before changing.
I have a few spare panels i could practice on, and I understand it's not easy, but I would like to do the xl in the long term, so it'd be good to have a practise on this. I'm thinking, now it needs it, afterall the paintwork already lets it down in general, because of all little dings and nicks, despite having avoided sun damage, most it's life so there not a high standard to live up to.

That hit on the rear quarter can be done by a panel beater between $500-$1500, on 2 of the cars at home have had hits there.
1st one was $1500 insurance 2nd one was $500 cash.

That rear can be doner yourself, piss easy. I had a few of those in my drifter days, its not that hard to fix.
Hey Joel, if you can't find the right coulour guard, you can have the one of mine, the passenger is still good.

Yeah I've had a look and I'm lucky its just single skinned in that rear quarter so i should be able to beat it out easy enough. Just a matter of bogging it up then and spraying it, gotta check it's water tight to as the star picket did a nice job at putting a couple very perfect marks in it.
Thanks for the offer but I still have a good guard on the ef so I'll just use that, if I can't get a match, by the way that indicator came in damn handy I had it sitting there so grabbed it and through it on since the old one shattered, so i could get to work on time still. hehe timmeh, yeah I've been meaning to change them over.

Yeah mate hence my comment about it'll be easy enough to beat out and bog, but just not sure on where to get paint etc?
Any special tips on spraying it once it's ready?

Depends on 2 things
-How good you want it -How good you can spray. If it happened to me, instead of getting the factory colour code, i'd go to a proper paint store like the auto paint shop in browns, or johns paint shed, and get them to mix the colour to the car. Remember the car is 12 years old orso, and the factory code won't match exactly. Then, once the panels were smoothed and ready, i would spray the whole panel, as its easier to buff a panel to match, than to blend it in with the remaining paint. If you do it that way, it should come up great.

did that earlier today, the paint is already cracked, my next concern is waterproof as i can see light through it. Went to a panel beater n browns plains reckoned if i fixed it already about 900 alone to spray the rear quarter. I also asked about where I can get paint he pointed me across the road, they were just closing down to move down the road, but I quizzed the guy up and he reckoned I can probably do the few parts I want to do for bout 250-300 ballpark, between clears and paints thinners etc. With regards to a bumper the rear guard and a bootlid.
