find out if it is the bootlid or if it's the number plate. if it is the number plate, take it off, run some coloured silicon to match your car around the edge of it and screw it back on. that stops that one rattling.

nice 1, i was in the process of chopping up some sponge  but the silicon idea makes much more sense

but what about the bootlid? it seems to rattle towards the back closer to the brake lights, if you know what i mean

it all depends on where your sub is. i've only got a 10" bolted to the underside of my back shelf with a piece of laminex as a spacer. it's not in there the best so it just causes heaps of rattles. any ideas on how to stop bootlid rattles would be great to hear!!

ive got a boxed 12" on jammed into the left cavity of the boot, opposite to where the spare tyre is. maybe some new rubber? or even a layer of sillicone?

Just spray the boot with sound deading spray, and then buy some sound shield matting and i garante the boot will rattle SFA after that. My spoiler and boot used to rattle but i have done all of that and now the only thing you hear is the slightest noise from my number plate.

Also with your number plate take it off and cover the back in sillicone and then let it dry. That way thier will be no matal touching the boot so it wont buzz and go crazy.

good luck.

Also with the spray, make sure you have pleanty of masking done to all surrounding areas, even if you spray it on a not so windy day the overspray can be a b**ch.

When i did mine i kept a tube of CRC Paint Doctor with me, its really good stuff, and if you happen to get any over spray on your car at all then thats good stuff to use to remove it :)

Places like Repco, Sprint auto parts, Motoquipe etc.. it costs about $12 for a can and i used a whole can. Made a hell of a difference just from that. Then ordered some sound shield (matting) from autobarn and that set me back $100, make sure the spray is dry before you put that on thou lol (obviously), then a tube of the paint doctor cost $12 too :)

Hope that helps.

to put the matting down, is that a hard task or fairly straight forward? and also would new seals help the boot
?

The sound shield matting is real easy to use and install. Just cut the shape you need then take off the solvent cover and it will basically stick to any clean surface etc..

Just put a bit of pressure on it when you place it on the underside of the boot so it gets a decent contact. Once you have done this not only will the boot rattle SFA but it will sound heaps quieter too.

I installed this stuff in the doors of my old XF and when the stereo was turned up full and the whole car was closed up you could hear absolutely nothing!!! But you could feel the bass lol. Its great stuff. :)
