Maybe fitting headlight protectors would be a good idea, thats what Im doing.
Ive just emailed him as to whether the EF ones are glass or plastic. |

Depends if he strengthens the glass or not as to its strength and durability.

The reason Ford and many others have gone from glass lenses to plastic is threefold - weight, cost and replacement.
Glass lenses are much heavier than their polycarbonate replacements, far more expensive to produce and glass ones last far too long.... I HATE the polycarbonate lenses in my two NL Fairlanes - even with Narva +50 globes in them - they are still only marginal when it comes to lighting. I normally run 90/100 H4's in my other cars and low beam on them is like high beam on the NL You are correct - if someone was to make glass repro lenses they would make a killing - but they would also need to make metal reflectors and stop the housings from melting with big globes. I think thats why their was like a $ 40 difference in the EF ones. But I was also thinking woudln't they be easier to break than obviously the plastic ones. Like what would a carefully projected stone that flips out from a truck in front of you and hit square on your New Glass headlight and what are the chances of it surviving. best case scenario it would chip it and probably leave a hole in the light were water could get in! Not sure now on the glass idea anymore?

but the front of the lens isn't smooth so they wouldn't look clear. it would just be 2 blurry circles behind some glass, they need to make some with a smooth lens i reckon. They'd look great. |

Headlight lemses have been glass for many years,I think a pair of headlight protectors should help if your worried about chips or cracks.Ive had more busted windscreens thab broken headlights in my 20 years of driving, and alot of that was counrty driving
